Tmdsas 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys!

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but how long after being verified by TMDSAS did you receive notification (if at all) from the schools you applied to that they had received your app?

Last year, only a few schools sent verification e-mails, and if I remember correctly, these were UTSA, TCOM, and UTSW. UTSA sent an email just to notify that they had received your materials, and TCOM and UTSW sent an e-mail giving instructions about their secondary applications.

I was verified on July 31 after submitting on June 26. It's only been 5 days, but I wanted to know what to expect.

Thanks
For me it was variable, UTSA was quick, but UTMB took about 2 weeks. I have not heard anything from any other schools in terms of 'complete' e-mails. It seems some people have received notice of their applications being complete from UTH, but others haven't.

to ad, Tech confirmed that I was complete. I received an e-mail reminding me to complete the secondary. I completed it, submitted it and then e-mailed confirming that I submitted. And received an e-mail back confirming that I was complete.

Thanks,

The only news I had was when I signed onto texas a&m's website to see that they had received my primary application.

No worries, as I said it's only been a few days.

Does anyone know how to enter match preference on TMDSAS? I've looked everywhere on the site and can't find this option.

The match process doesn't start until January..

The match process doesn't start until January..

So does this mean we won't know where we are going until January? This is my first year applying to Texas schools and as I didn't go to undergrad in Texas I'm a little unclear on the TMDSAS process... When do we find out if we're accepted?

I'm just wondering, does anyone know if they've been giving interview invites to any OOS people yet? Or do they do mostly IS first. I'm just wondering because I am feeling super super behind with TMDSAS (submitted 7/14 and waiting on verification), but then I got to thinking that maybe they haven't even started with the OOSers anyways. Any ideas? 😕

I'm pretty sure a few OOSers have gotten interviews already (you may want to view the school specific discussions to verify). Don't worry, you are not super late. I submitted my application just a little while before you. There are lots of people waiting on verification, especially those taking the MCAT in late summer. Nothing you can do now but keep your chin up and wait for some news!

Depending on the Texas school OOS notifications begin Oct 15 and IS notifications begin Nov 15. The only people affected by the 'match' are IS students. Notifications are sent until the class is full. At my UT Houston interview, they said that they just pulled some people off of the wait list as late as last week.

The match process doesn't start until January..

Thanks for this clarification. In a previous application year, you were able to designate match preference immediately following the interview.

I mean, don't take my word for it, but I was just basing my statement on the fact that the "pre-match" period is from nov 15 - dec 31. I wasn't aware that they let you start ranking right after interviews.. but either way they should be due January 15 so it's still early.

So as an IS student (I've been living and working in Austin apart from school for over a year), I won't know which school I'm attending until January?

Hey guys!

I'm applying for 2011, and I'm getting ready to take the MCAT in a few weeks. Of course I'm SUPER nervous. :scared:

I just wanted to know how the TX schools (I'm a resident) look at MCAT scores. I'm sure not all of them evaluate the same way, but do most take the highest score or average them, in the case of retakes?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated! Best of luck to everyone!! :luck::luck:

So starting Nov 15, you can start getting acceptances. If you get an offer from your top choice, then you're done. You just enter that as your first preference for the match. However, if you don't get into your top choice (and you interviewed there), you can enter the match process that will hopefully match you up with that school or another school that you ranked higher than the one(s) you got accepted from. Match results are posted on February 1, so yes, if you did not get into a school you are satisfied with during the pre-match period, then potentially you would not know where you're going until February 1. and even then, you still might not know if you've been waitlisted.

It really depends on the individual school. Some look at the highest score in each section. Some look at all the scores. Some look at the latest score. The best way to find out is to contact the schools. You may want to look at the Republic of Texas thread as well. Most of those students have already been accepted and may have a better idea.

I submitted my application about two weeks ago and everything is being shown as complete except for test scores. Am I suppose to do something extra, or just fill out my AAMC ID, test date, and SS#? 😕

you need to release your score to tmdsas from mcat thx system

my secondary app status for A&M keeps showing pending even though I was verified by TMDSAS back in july 7th....this is wierd:scared:

Mine says 'under review' for ages now and I've been verified since June! Did yours say 'under review' at any point and then move to pending?

Does the TAMU status page say that you have paid and submitted your secondary and primary? Also, there is an "identity form" that you have to fill out for TAMU. My TMDSAS was verified the 31st of July and TAMU was complete yesterday.

How many of you actually submitted the optional evaluation letter for TCOM? I'd like to, but it seems it wouldn't carry much weight unless it came from a D.O.

nope...mine never said "under review" at any point

Yep it says that Ive paid, submitted the primary and secondary and the identity form.....I emailed one of the admissions staff but never got a response.

Do schools keep primary applications from year to year? It doesn't seem very practical, but I was wondering b/c I used an old optional essay answer from my last application. Don't know if they would hold that against me or not.

I've been putting this off to get my secondaries done. I think I'm a little scared of Texas. Is it too late to apply here you think?

It's late for Texas but not too late to apply. I've known people to apply in October who interviewed and was admitted in Texas.

I submitted on 8/12. It now says submitted to TMDSAS. Does that mean that they recieved payment and have sent it?

I am very worried about being a late(r) applicant. Is anyone else nervous about that too?

You can check if they received payment under your status. After you submit, it should say "Submitted to TMDSAS". Then you need to wait about 4 weeks while they verify your coursework/grades with your transcript, and then the status next to each school would change to "Transmitted to School".

I'm getting nervous... UT southwestern is already giving October interview dates... sheesh... their dates filled up fast....

I haven't heard from any of the Texas schools, uuuggghhh.... I had everything in by mid July, except my LORS which were in by July 28th... Anyone else in the same boat...?

Has anyone received any rejections from Texas schools?

I don't know if they keep them but I reused some from the old application cycle.

Texas schools usually don't send out rejections until really really late in the cycle (post Feb match). Some don't send rejections at all. Just know that if you don't interview by late Dec, Early Jan, you're likely rejected. I interviewed at UTH but haven't heard a peep from any of the other Texas schools, though I do have a couple of out of state interviews. At my interview, alot of those students were like on interview number 4 for Texas schools. This process is so random that it really makes me crazy!

If I were you, I'd e-mail the ADCOMS to verify that your file is complete. It can't hurt to do so. And then it may trigger them to look at your app. Just a suggestion. 🙂

If it helps, last time I applied (a couple of years ago) I didn't get my first Texas interview invite until September for an October date.

Keep in mind that UTSW is the second toughest school in Texas to gain admission to.
Don't worry too much about not having heard anything yet from the other schools. Give it a couple more weeks.

Thanks for the feedback DrSno. Do you recommend holding off on contacting the schools? I sent a couple of e-mails out earlier in the cycle and have considered e-mailing again. But I don't want to appear too pushy.

As long as you know you are complete at the schools, I wouldn't email them again. Especially since you said you are a reapplicant, they know you are serious about wanting to attend. If you interviewed at UTH I'd be quite surprised if you don't get a couple others. Good luck to you.

thanks for the feedback Dr. Sno..... I've already called and verified that my application is complete (I did that earlier this week), I have several interviews at other schools and for those every time I called they ended up telling me I'd get an interview invite in the next week or so, but for the Texas schools they just said you're application is complete and under review. Nothing left but to wait.... however, I really really want to go to school in Texas so this wait is killing me!

Hey guys quick question.. anyone know about how long does it takes for med schools to receive your mcat scores after you release them to tmdsas? My app has already been verified and submitted to the schools since late july.

After I released my scores to TMDSAS, the med schools had them within 2 days. I think they have to download them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I also e-mailed each school to inform them that my new scores were in and that they had been released to TMDSAS. Some replied immediately and acknowledged receipt while I never heard from others. Out of the blue today, I get an e-mail from Southwestern saying that they 'finally received my latest MCAT scores'. This concerns me because TMDSAS received them July 21, almost a month ago! So just be sure to follow up.

Did you ever get that issue resolved? I'm having the same problem

Hey all,

Just wanted to pop my head in and say hello!! This application process is so draining! Good luck to you all, keep your head up!! And if you get an interview at Tech or Tech-El Paso you should not pass it up!! I'm in Tech Lubbock and I thought I wouldn't like it here, but I am LOVING it. Not only is the school great, but (keep in mind this is coming from an Aggie, lol) I really like Lubbock a LOT. The weather is so much better up here!! Tech EP is just a really cool place to visit, I was very impressed with their school.

GOOD LUCK! Feel free to shoot questions my way if you have any! I can't promise I will be able to answer them, but I can try my best!!

Aggie, thank you for editing your signature. 👍

Thanks for the encouragement and support. You're so right... the application process is very draining. All of this waiting around, traveling, etc. I'm grateful but it's quite exhausting. Dr. Sno already advised not to contact them pre-interview once I know I'm complete. After your interviews, did you just wait for pre-match/match or did you send updates to the schools? I feel like I should do something besides waiting... but I guess I should just be a bit patient LoL.

I didn't send any updates, but contrary to Dr. Sno I did contact schools if I really wanted to interview there. Wait until a little later in the process, though. See if you get some interviews first. I think it was around October when I expressed my interest to Tech, where I had yet to interview. I got an email in return saying that they were sorry they had overlooked my application and that they wanted to interview anyone with ties to the Texas Panhandle (I grew up here). I had an interview invite the next day I think. So, don't take my advice or his advice or anyone else's without first considering what is best for you. If there is a school you have particular interest in and you haven't interviewed there AND you feel like it might help, let them know. There's no right or wrong way and everyone approaches it differently. By the time October came around I was viewing it as it won't HURT me at this point to email some people and it could only help. Well, it did help and now I'm in school at the place where I expressed my interest (I also ranked them high on my match list, though).

But, yes - for now you wait. It's scary and slightly depressing sometimes. Do NOT gauge yourself by those on SDN. This is a small slice of the med school population and MOST have significantly higher than average scores. You'll be fine.

That does seem kinda strange. If you don't mind my asking, what are your GPA and MCAT? Do you have clinical and non-clinical volunteer work?

Hopefully the interviews start coming in soon for you. Good luck. :luck:

Retook the MCAT June 18th and received the scores back July 21. On July 21, I made it a point to e-mail every school in which I applied to update them with my score and remind them that the scores came in. About 75% replied. Out of the blue, yesterday I receive an e-mail from Southwestern that they finally have my latest MCAT score! This is nearly a month later. So I called UTMB because I read the UTMB thread and saw that students got 'complete' e-mails where as I had not. So I this morning when I called the lady told me that my application was under review and complete. I asked her to verify that they had my latest MCAT score and she said that the latest one she had was from 2007! She right then and there downloaded my score from TMDSAS and said, oh wow, big improvement! When I asked her if this meant that my app went through review without my new scores, she said she'd notate the account and send a message to admissions. Now I'm going to spend the day calling the schools to make sure they've updated my application with my new scores. AAAAARRRGGGGHHH!!!!😡

***Edit... called all of the schools and this seems to have only been an issue with UTMB and Southwestern. So any of you with updated scores, even if you released to TMDSAS, I suggest that you call to verify. All of the admissions staff that I spoke with across the schools were very nice and willing to assist.

My GPA and MCAT are about average for most of the Texas schools, nothing stellar, but the Texas schools shouldn't be a long shot for me by any means.

I have three years of clinical work starting in 2001 as a CNA. I have almost a year's worth of experience being an office manager for a private practice. I have 140 hours of shadowing an OB/GYN in all aspects of practice. I have volunteer work for two years at a free clinic. I also have volunteer work for one semester working with immigrants in St. Louis, MO helping them get established and connected to the community in their new home. I was a varsity athlete in college. Received my schools Presidential scholarship all four years(awarded to 8 members of the incoming class). I was an honors student. The vice president of the student government association. I served as the volunteer director of intercampus communications for a Political Action Committee in Arkansas that lobbied the state government to restore a scholarship program aimed at keeping the best and brightest college applicants in the state of Arkansas. I conducted research with the CDC in Arkansas using the CDC's Bi-annual Behavioral Risk Factor Assessment Survey results and looking for trends between the incidence rate of high drinking and living in a "dry" or "wet" Arkansas county. I also worked 2-3 jobs at a time while in college everything from life guarding to supervising at the athletic center, working in the admissions office, being the promotions assistant for the campus radio station, being the Work Study for the Dean of Undergraduate studies, working as a receptionist at a dental practice and a salon.

After graduating college I worked in Manhattan for a stock firm and a high end interior designer, I then worked as the office manager for the private practice. Currently I work in Austin as a client relations manager for a technology company. I had to have an emergency appendectomy without health insurance the summer after I graduated college and thus couldn't afford to take an entry-level job in medicine after graduating college, but I can say that after working in the high profile corporate world my level of professionalism, and my professional skill set is far more developed than it would have been had I worked in any other setting.

I realize I'm not the best candidate in the world, but I think all of my extra curricular activities certainly round me out and make me unique!

ahhh my admissions office is driving me crazy. one of the advisors is going out of town, and now the secretary is going out of town too!
