Tmdsas 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the Paul Foster and UTH interviews today too. Anyone hear from any of the other schools about an interview today?

On a related note, does UTMB send an email to acknowledge that they have gotten your app? I know UTSA sends such an email. Haven't gotten either though.

If you indicated on TMDSAS that you gonna retake the MCAT, are they gonna hold back on their interview invites?

If my TMDSAS has not yet been sent to the schools, is there any point in getting the secondaries in quickly? I know that if they already have my primary, I should knock it out ASAP, but if they don't yet have the primary, would there be any disadvantage to tweaking the secondaries until they receive the primary?

I know you can submit secondaries before they get your primary, so I think you should go ahead and do it. ppl have been getting interviews..... so power yourself up in this

if i submitted my application 6/23, when can i expect to be verified and for the schools to receive my application?? thanks guys. good luck to all

It's typically been taking about 18-20 days for TMDSAS to transmit your app after you've submitted it.

Okay, so now I'm completely confused. My status page has said "Submitted to TMDSAS" under my individual schools since TMDSAS received my check one month ago. Does this ever change? Does this even mean that the schools have gotten my app, or is it just in holding at TMDSAS? Thanks SO MUCH for your help.

When they verify your application the message will change from "submitted to TMDSAS" to "Submitted to Schools." This means that TMDSAS has not yet verified you. In order to verify you they must have your transcripts.

ARGH! They have my UG listed twice on their transcripts expected form, once for post-bacc and once for UG work. I made sure the transcript was sent with both cover sheets, and it has all the classes on it. But only one is saying "recieved". I've both called and emailed TMDSAS about this, and they just say "don't worry, it will be cleaned up during processing". So how long should this mythical processing be expected to take? I submitted 6/15. Any thoughts on what I should do? Or just wait?

Thanks again!!

But the rate limiting step is getting the primary in, right? so as long as I submit the secondary by the time they get the TMDSAS, it should all be equal right? If you can't tell that I'm struggling a bit with the secondaries, I am...

I had the same problem and they did fix it, it took a few weeks after I submitted for it to be changed. Don't worry though, it won't hold up anything.

what do neuroscience courses count as? it's not listed in any of the categories in the tmdsas instructions.

Also if you had leadership positions within your volunteer activities are you guys double listing or just talking about it once???

Thanks.

got an interview offer from TTU today.

thank you, it was sent to the schools on 6/18.

Had a quick question. I entered several things into the "other activities" category on the TMDSAS app. However, none of them show up on the application summary. Has this happened to anybody else? Is this a glitch with the system? Thanks.

I'm applying OOS, and just submitted my app tonight. In the e-mail they sent me, it says....

Once payment is received, we will process your application and transmit it to
the schools. You will receive notification once it has completed processing
and has been transmitted to the schools.

Please remember that TMDSAS does not wait on transcripts, letters or test
scores to process applications. It is your responsibility to ensure that TMDSAS
has received all supporting documents.

Does this mean that I shouldn't send my payment until all my transcripts and letters have been received? Or can I send payment now and it won't matter if it gets there before my transcripts? Also, I have to have my school send some sort of breakdown of my AP credits, and they are acting like this has never been asked of them before, so I'm not sure how long it will be and don't really want to wait on it....

You should go ahead and send in ur payment. My payment got in before transcripts and letters. And it is doing fine. Don't wait

Anyone else receiving interview offers? I was really hoping to do a couple before I head back to school (out of state) so that I don't have to fly back!

I just logged in to the TT Lubbock to look over the secondary and all of the essays are blank. Has anyone seen the same thing, I just want to make sure they were submitted properly. It has the check marks next to 'Medical Interests', but nothing else.

My essays show up...but it does take a few minutes to load for some reason. Although for some reason, I still don't have a "status" on the website. Anyone else seeing the same?

Ah, thanks. I tried it again and this time it worked. I also do not have a status showing up.

In case you have already done A&M's...they ask for population and regional location. If I live in Houston, do they want the total population or just of my zip code? Is regional location with respect to the state?

Thanks.

is the Personal Essay for the Medical School Application your personal statement. I just wanted to make sure.

also did any of you guys apply out of state and not list your out of state schools

thanks

Yes it is. I put down the schools which were out of state that I knew I was going to apply to at the time.

I live in Houston too -- I clicked the link they provide and typed in Houston. From the number I saw, I think it refers to the population of the City of Houston proper, not the suburbs too. For regional location...I said Southeast Texas? I'm guessing that question is more for little towns they haven't heard of rather than a major city.

Thanks arrivee, that helps.

It says 23/24 complete.. i can't for the life of me find out what the last missing step is.. the chronology section says it's complete (timeline complete)... any ideas??

thanks!!!!

I just heard something from a friend in med school that was interesting. I think it's safe to say we all know the advantages of applying early, but he told me that's a common misconception. Basically, the way he explained it... there are 4 windows that Texas med schools review applications: May/June, July, August, and September (if you're applying in October you better have a 4.0 and 45) -- And each have the same number of spots. So basically, if you apply during mid June, you are actually applying quite late (in regards to the window). Which means if you have a 27/3.5, average stats, you should submit your application at time so as TMDSAS will send it to the schools at the beginning of July, so as to have your application reviewed with more seats open. I suppose if you have an awesome gpa and MCAT combo this wouldn't matter. I'm just really confused about what he told me... has anyone else heard anything like this or is this guy psyching out paranoid pre-meds?

Interesting. It may very well be true, although I have no additional information to add. What I can say though is that you really can't plan for the window because you can't control when exactly your app gets verified, when they transmit to schools, etc. So I still think your best bet is just getting them in as early as possible. The stats show that the earlier you apply, the better so I'd stick with that!

I had the same issue and had to email (there's a support link in the app, you can do it from there). It turned out to be something weird with my letters. That application is crazy!

Exactly, I don't see how you could control when your app is verified and sent to schools so it doesn't make sense to me. I submitted my apps early and then he told me that so I was a little worried but I think I was right.

I've heard that people in the past have "ranked" the schools they liked through the Texas system. I don't remember doing that in my app (maybe I've just totally blanked on that?), is it still being done and if so when/where in the application process? I'm still (frustratingly) waiting on one transcript, so I am not yet verified.

That will happen sometime early 2010, you rank if you have not yet been accepted anywhere so they can "match" you. Applicants rank their choices of med school and med schools rank their applicant choices so you can be matched to your most preferred med school that will have you. I think if you've already been accepted at that point you are not obligated to rank. Try looking it up on the TMDSAS website since I am not quite clear on all the details.

This happened to me too, except at 22/24. I went through my entire application and did what was asked for each step and when I was done, it was 24/24. I think an important part is placing the letter requests.

It took some searching on their website, but I found it. Apparently this is something that happens in January, and is most important to people who did not get a "pre-match" offer. Odd system. But eh, if it keeps me in Texas I'm game ^.^

just wondering, if i applied this cycle and don't get in, can i use the same PS and LOR for the next cycle?

There's nothing stopping you from doing that but its generally not advised to, at least for the LOR's. It's better to update your LOR writers about what you've done since the last time they wrote your LOR and ask them to write a new one/update the old one. It's just better to have updated LOR's.

A personal statement is a little more subjective. If your key motivations for going into medicine haven't changed, then it may not be necessary. The caveat is that if your PS was a weak link in your application, you'd best revise. Texas Tech has a reapplicant file review in which they'll go over the application of anyone who didn't get in and discuss points they think may have contributed to that person not getting in/getting an interview. They told me that my PS was unclear and that if I reapplied with a clearer PS (and early enough) that I would like have been offered an interview there.

how long after you guys submitted did your apps get verified for texas??

Does anyone know if TCOM calculates your grades the same as the other allopathic schools in Texas or do they honor grade replacement?
