For those of you who asked for a letter of recommendation from a professor. I have an appointment with my professor next week. I was wondering what would I need to do ? I understand that the application process does not open until May 1st, so what did y'all do for letter of evaluation ? Did y'all just went back to the professor after may 1st ? And did y'all just ask the professor to just write it although isn't there specific requirements for each letter ? A lot of input would be great !! Thanks !
 
Another question. I have not taken my DAT yet, but I am applying this cycle. If I submit my application by July 10th and take my DAT around July 20th or so. Do you think that I will still be consider an early applicant ? As in getting an interview before dec 1st ?

Post December Acceptances on SDN:

SA:
1/15 - 1
1/24 - 5
2/17 - 4

Houston:
2/4 - (several- anyone wanna count? haha)
2/28 - 4

There could be an error in the number of acceptances, but I definitely got the dates right! lol If anyone is bored and wants to double check, that would be cool!

I got accepted to UTHSCSA at 9:32 AM today. I am a re-applicant. Ironically, I was in surgery to extract my wisdom teeth when I got the email lol I interviewed on Jan 28th. Good luck to everyone else who is waiting. Hang in there! I know people who got in May last year.
 
Quick question for you all. If I was accepted to a school and receive an acceptance to a different school when is the latest I can switch? I remember hearing that you can decline your deposit but I know there was a date in which that was no longer and option. Thanks!
 
I also got accepted this past thurs March 14th for UTHSCSA.
I don't feel comfortable posting up all my stats but just know
1. Retook my DAT and AA was 21
2. Reapplicant
3. My post-bacc gpa is a 4.0
Good luck to everyone! Just know, if dentistry is what you really want to do, don't ever give up and believe in yourself. Hard work always pays off 🙂

I am still waiting to hear from baylor but am planning on reapplying this may. My adviser told me I should change my personal statement. Does anyone know if this is correct advice? and should I rewrite my optional essays too? and how much do I have to change my personal statement?I would really appreciate the help! thanks!

Changing your personal statement to add strength (improving quality of writing, stronger word choice, adding meaningful points/stories, etc.) is a great idea. But changing it in the sense of changing your reasoning, saying things that contradict your original personal statement, etc. is a bad idea. You don't want to be or appear dishonest. Make sure your voice is still there. Same goes for the optional essays. If you have any writing workshops at your school or that you can access if you are not in school, especially those that pertain to pre-dental and/or pre-medical, take advantage of those opportunities. If not, you can let someone else look it over that you trust and think is qualified to do so. Just make sure they don't actually rewrite things for you.
 
Anybody have any updates on uthscsa? I emailed the school for the status of my app...but i never received a reply. Does anyone know when they typically start up a waitlist?

Not sure about a waitlist, but I received an acceptance this morning 🙂 I guess they are still accepting!!!!!

I agree with the Houston statement and I think another round should come out soon, but it will be very small. After that I imagine it will only be individual acceptances.

Isn't today the last day for TX schools to give out results? I've been checking my emails but haven't seen any (non-acceptance) emails yet.
 
No, May is when schools make their waitlist and accept on case by case. June is the last month for acceptances (according to last year).
 
Oh okay. Do you know when they send out rejection letters? I know remember Dr. P. saying that the waitlist is generally really small--and that they send non-acceptances to everyone else. I'm guessing that those who were accepted in June last year were placed on waitlist.

Last Year the alternate list started mid-May. At that point, they had already filled their class with deposits. They didn't send out non-acceptances until august after the first week of school. Honestly, after the alternate list has been made, chances are extremely slim.
I think May might be when the schools stop sending acceptances to those who have already recieved one from another school and start sending them to those who have not recieved any. But this only occurs if they still have spots to give. Things might have changed this year, so it might be worth contacting them to see where things currently stand.

so if I'm not a texas resident, how do I apply?
i noticed someone above said that texas applicants can only use TMDSAS

I don't know if this has already been determined but I talked to Houston today and they said they are 100% full but they are still working on a wait list incase someone drops between now and when school starts.
 
a quick $0.02/advice....even if schools are full, if you are wait-listed, call the school about the end of the orientation. Seems like every year some poor soul realizes he/she doesn't want to do dentistry towards the end of the 2 week orientation at UCSF. So call up the school and ask if they want another $30K. If it's a state school, your chances are better...
