Has anyone who has not received an invite from a particular school given then a call? I have received all of the "app received" emails and havent heard a peep. Starting to get pretty anxious.

When I called them I just got the standard "your app is under review right now and that's all I know" response.

I called SA 3 weeks ago bc I hadn't gotten the app received email. Got that and an invite the next day.

That's the kind of thing I am talking about. Not sure if it was sheer luck that it happened to be the next day, or calling them helped the process.

Thank you for the replies!

I would guess luck.

My app was mailed out early July, haven't heard anything yet...

I'm a second time applicant and currently pursuing an MS while I'm waiting. From what I remember last year, this month was when most people got their interviews.

I'm in the same boat. I think Texas hates reapplicants..

Chin up! We are 4 days in! I am hopeful for everybody!!!

Hang in there guys. Don't annoy admissions with calls if they already told you they received your stuff. Focus on the interview and communication skills. You don't need a bunch of insightful questions for the interviewer.

Baylor interviews felt like what I imagine speed dating to be like. 3x 15 min interviews but they go fast. Nobody is trying to trip you up and you get asked similar questions. Sometimes I felt like they'd ask me a question and as I was answering they were just waiting for me to stop talking long enough so they could ask another question. I remember thinking "oh man I was just about to elaborate and give a better response to that question"... In other words, understand that your first response to a question may be your only response so make it count.

They really just wanna see your personality and confidence. Ha one admissions person said it was kinda funny how these predents are told ahead of time to make sure they maintain eye contact, but some take it too far and do this bug-eyed staring contest the whole time.

first time poster...i applied late...9/28 ..how yall doing?

Hey atxhorn, I applied the same day as you. I've received email confirmations from all 3 schools of receipt of my application, but that's all. You? By the way I have no idea what the chances are for people in our boat.....applying so late.....thoughts anyone?

It's possible to get interviews applying late. I received some and applied on 9/26.

Good luck, there's still plenty of time: It's only been 11 days into October.

Chances of an average candidate getting an interview go down the longer you wait. Those with high stats have a better chance of landing a late interview .

what do you think about this....?

applied very late (9/29) and took DAT late (9/26)...

26 AA, 25 TS, 29 OC, 26 GC, 28 Reading, 23 Bio, 22 PAT, 22 QR

3.89 overall GPA, 3.95 science GPA

BUT....

no bachelors.... just four years of undergrad work (all the pre-reqs except Physics II complete; will take Spring of 2014), and two years of a four year Pharmacy school/Pharm.D. program complete.... don't plan on finishing the Pharm.D... hoping to get into dental this year...

....so ya basically am just a High School graduate haha...

I feel like a tremendously odd candidate... maybe I am not alone?

tbh it sounds like you're not sure what it is you want to do, but I don't know anything else. All the statistics are obviously superb, but schools care about your motivation a great deal.

Pretty sure you must have a bachelors for Baylor. I'd call all the texas schools to see if they make exceptions.

Why I am making the switch is literally the entirety of my personal statement, so I guess I'm banking on that being enough...

Thanks for the reply!

Interestingly I know the valedictorian of the 2011 Baylor dental class and he got into all three texas schools without a bachelors actually... all I know is he had the same DAT score as me, and I believe a good GPA, but not sure exactly what it is. He came straight from undergrad. But I think that's a good idea to go ahead and call anyway, can't hurt...

Anybody in Dallas area want all my binders from d1 year? Course notebooks for biochem, micro, gross, phys, dental anatomy,... Also got some JADA dental journal magazines if you wanna read about what's going on in dentistry

We're pretty similar applicants. Stats are the same pretty much (I have a slightly worse DAT and better GPA), and are career changers. I too focused on why I made the change in my PS. The only difference is I applied 2 months before you and will complete my 3 TX interviews on 10/29. I think it's very likely you'll interview at all 3, but they might not be all be pre-December (Houston comes to mind). I think you've got a good shot for this cycle.

What made you switch from pharmacy to dental? Do you go to UT pharm school?

haha very nice. Thanks my man.

Blessings.

What made you switch from pharmacy to dental? Do you go to UT pharm school?

I went to UofH pharm school. But ya, first off, I did not learn what a pharmacist actually does on a daily basis and what little "say" they have in the medical field before going into the profession... I was a little lazy in college in that respect ha. After two years I've identified that my personality best fits that of a physician or dentist.... and dentistry appeals to me the most. Having autonomy/owning your own business and not being under the pressure of a retail corporation or hospital is quite preferable to me. Additionally, I want to be a family man, and dentists seem to be able to set their own schedules and work as little or as much as they want... unlike a pharmacist. My main desire in life is to spend lots of quality time with my wife and kids.... I think this switch will facilitate that. Life is short, right? Why work it all away. Finally I want to be a real practitioner... diagnosing, tangibly working with my hands and performing medical procedures.... making the ultimate decision in a patients healthcare treatment.... all things pharmacists cannot do and dentists can.

great answer.

Would you mind posting your stats and the date you applied?
3.96/4.0 c/sGPA, 25AA, 100+ shadowing hours and lots of volunteer work.
I applied 8/5, transmitted to schools 8/21. I'd heard from multiple sources that UTSD was the slowest and that proved true for me.

Congrats on the interview! Is Houston your top choice?

Thanks. It was stressing me out a bit. I've never been down there, so I can't really say tbh. Ask me in 3 weeks 🙂

You'll love the school for sure... Brand new facility with state-of-the-art clinic. I have friends who go there right now and they love the school, but they complain about it being to hard to find patients. I've heard that Baylor is the best at that.

I hope so. Every school has something I suppose, but I know the stress of finding patients can ruin your later years. I too have friends there who are enjoying it, so I'll reserve judgement until I can get a full picture. I'm pretty excited, but there's another interview and 4 midterms before them so I'll think about it later! 😴

Good luck with everything! I'm still waiting for my Houston invite lol...😕

It WAS typically easy to get patients at Baylor, but this year seems to be the exception. Baylors known for the amount of lab work that we have to do but supposedly they're trying to cut down on that.

Not sure how other schools go but I'm semi-hating D3 right now bc of all of the denture work I have. Currently have 3 denture patients that I'm actively treating, and 3 more that I've extracted their teeth and they are healing 6 weeks before I start making the denture. (This was before they taught us immediate dentures). I discounted the amount of lab work and removable (denture) requirements, but it should be a consideration if you have multiple offers.

Baylor doesn't let you have off campus access to the patient scheduling/electronic charting system but I hear SA and Houston do. Not sure what they are able to access off site but anything would be nice.

Interview for San Antonio 10/28,
Invite received 10/16 at 3:55 PM

Good Luck Everyone!

This thread has been really quiet this year

I'm pulling for you guys! There is still time for pre-Dec interviews, especially at Houston! I wasn't expecting to interview there until November, and I almost am (10/29).

ya... hopefully that means interviews are later this year :luck:

Last time I talked to the schools I was told thy are interviewing and sending out invites weekly. And that if selected for an interview you hear about 2 weeks in advance.

oh ok thanks! so then perhaps there are about 2 weeks or so left of time for them to send out pre-dec interview invites

Thought I would hear back from at least one of them by now..

when did you receive your confirmation emails from the schools? I received Baylor's on 10/2, Houston's on 10/9 and San Antonio's on 10/9. Haven't heard anything either.

Best of luck,

Best of luck,

Received all 3 confirmations on 9/12 and 9/13

lol I feel yall's pain. I got my last confirmation email in July so I've been waiting a while.

It's possible to get interviews applying late. I received some and applied on 9/26.

Good luck, there's still plenty of time: It's only been 11 days into October.

Safety Dog,

1) what days did you receive your invitations to interview if you don't mind me asking?

and

2) is 9/26 the day your TMDSAS application was transmitted out to the schools? Also, were your DAT scores and LORs in already as well at that point?

I'm likely over-calculating this, but since my DAT scores did not arrive at TMDSAS until 10/11 (application transmitted 9/29), and you, say for example, received your interviews on 10/10, then it would be possible for me to receive an invite tomorrow, exactly 15 days after they received all pieces of information 😎

Those who apply early can get a quicker turnaround. October is pretty late to submit your stuff. If you have average stats you'll just have to wait and see
