That's really awesome and i really like the fact that you've put so much time into actually exploring what you want to do and planning everything out properly. One of the regrets I do have is not applying out of state honestly, like you mentioned, Dallas is cool, but it definitely doesn't have the same vibe as somewhere like SF where it's actually alive and interesting.

My girlfriend actually goes to UTD rn as well! I go to OU. If I could restart this cycle I think I would apply to OU, UNLV, AZ, and some Cali schools. I really like the desert, and obviously California's great.

I really wanted to save as much money possible, (out of state for OU is already expensive) so I decided Texas only, since if I get into a school here I'm definitely sticking around for the cheaper cost anyways, I didn't want to apply to somewherei wouldn't go (though I may have changed my mind like you did).
Yeah, for me I knew I wanted to go into a specialty in preferably orthodontics and was looking to practice somewhere in the inner city where I can serve the most diverse community that I can possible! So that came into heavy consideration when I was applying this cycle. Ah, I actually applied to ASDOH but I haven't heard back :/ We'll see though! And yeah, I've been to SF twice now and it's definitely a unique and beautiful city! 🙂

I understand where you are coming from in terms of saving money, especially going out of state for undergrad.

Personally for me, the biggest thing I learned during the application process is that this cycle is just so full of possibilities and that I should definitely take the chance if I truly wanted it, because I would never know unless I gave it a try! Right now, I'm certainly glad that I did because it truly taught me a lot about myself and the importance of staying confident and persistent in all the work that I have been putting in for all these years. 🙂

How they were so welcoming. They preached the "family atmosphere" and I for sure saw that on the interview day. More than the other schools not to say tho that they weren't welcoming. People I knew/friends made me feel like I was coming home. I know quite a few in A&M and San Antonio but Houston really made it a point to deliver that feeling

I felt the exact same as you about Houston as well! Baylor and SA (from what I've heard from others who've interviewed there) definitely seem welcoming, but Houston, I feel, TRULY emphasizes that and actually does their best to make you feel at home. It was probably the surprise school of the cycle for me in terms of visiting and interviewing.

You know, I really like Houston a lot, and I definitely liked their students and atmosphere too, but there was something about it that was a tiny weird to me :/ I mentioned earlier it would probably be my #1 if it weren't for location, and that's true, but I think purely from the people I met/saw in the school, A&M had like the most "real" and cool student body to me!

Thats really awesome!

Thanks! All the best of luck to you! 🙂 December 1st is so exciting and NERVE-RACKING omg. I'm trying to do everything I can at this point to keep myself sane now that it's coming up so soon!!

Haha honestly I wish I got that excited about stuff. I'm a horrible gift reciever because even when I get something i wanted I'm just like, "thanks".

Are you planning on staying up Dec 1st? As of right now I think I'm going to sleep.

Haha I think I'm just gonna be a little neurotic and then stay up until midnight on December 1st. And then check my email from time to time and just hope for the best for the rest of the day for something magical I guess. xD I hate how it's sooo close to finals week ugh.

Hoping someone can help me... I'm sure I could find this answer elsewhere but if I can ask here and get the answer why not?

So in the past I applied as a Missouri resident (3 years ago) and used AADSAS. I got 2 interviews but did not get accepted.

I am now considered a Texas resident so I used TMDSAS to apply to the 3 Texas programs and thats it. However I'm wondering....as a Texas resident if you want to apply to TX schools AND other schools do you have to fill out both portals?? I received an e-mail from another school requesting that I apply to their school (prob just want my application fee, who knows, but hey I will do whatever I can) so do I have to now go ask my dentists/professors to submit the letters again, request transcripts again, etc? I know its super late in the cycle but since this school reached out to me and that didnt happen last time I applied, I feel like I should apply and just see what happens. Thanks in advance for the help!

SCRATCH THAT. Just saw the post about this school sending this e-mail to multiple people. Prob not worth my time haha 😀

Can anyone that went to A&M for an interview already give me an idea of the set up of the day? Any specific questions or anything you remember them asking?
Thanks in advance!

You're either in the AM or PM section. Am gets there in the morning and meets for a second in the room, you'll honestly be there longer than expected (my experience) and you just chat with the other applicants. After a while they'll come explain the process, 3, 12-15 minute interviews with faculty, they'll knock when each session is almost over.

They'll call you in waves, so you might have 1 interview every 30 minutes, or you could have back to back interviews.

After this you come back to the Golding room and go through presentations, I believe at this time all applicants (am and pm) are in the room together. After the financial aid info, you get a research presentation. Then everyone goes to lunch, and then afterwards a tour of the facilities. flip flop for the afternoon session.

If I made a mistake someone correct me!

What kind of questions did you guys ask at the end of each interview?

Well, I asked questions throughout my interview. It's not like an interrogation, it's a conversation! Act like you're catching up with an old professor, you're friendly and relaxed while still keeping it very professional.

I asked questions about where my interviewer commuted in from, traffic getting to the school (trust me it sucks), common extracurriculars of the students, their schools atmosphere compared to the others (this got the best response) just things like that. I only asked what I really wanted to know and what flowed naturally.

They aren't wondering if you'll ask about their curriculum, they're just wondering if you're A.) a good fit for their school, which you answer by your conversation and personality. And B.) Are they actually interested in the school? Which is answered by the fact that you have legitimate questions!

If you just ask questions that are super generic I don't think it helps.

Awesome that sounds good! Did you get any challenging questions, or did anyone grill you on grades?

Well, I wouldn't say I had any really challenging questions, but Dr. Lacy (I think was her name) was definitely asking me a lot of things over my app. She also was pushing me on whether or not i would take a specific course after I graduate (this fall) and was really push about some things. But she's really nice still.

Dr. Nickels was probably the most challenging, he's super nice, but his eyes are so beautiful it was difficult for me to answer him lol! My girlfriend didn't like that when i told her. They drag you in and don't let you out!

Literally his eyes were like two giant gateways into infinity, it didn't even make sense. Pretty sure he read my mind.

I heard an identical story from some of the morning interviewees when I was there last week. Not sure if it was the same guy, but I would assume so.

I really wanted to stay in TX, thus I just submitted other out-of-state school applications around two weeks ago. I'm worried that I would not get accepted into even one school.

Don't worry, I'm on the same boat!

Yeah applying OOS is definitely a good idea. I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket. I have 3 OOS interviews and no Texas interviews. My TMDSAS and AADSAS app were completed very late though (very late for TMDSAS) be my DAT was uploaded on 9/21. So I'm not really expecting much from TX schools pre-December. But I already got 3 invites OOS and I couldn't be happier applying OOS and not putting all my hopes on TX.

Thank you! I received my first invite 7 days after my app was complete/under review. Then recieved my second invite the week after my first one and recieved the third invite 3 weeks after my second invite.

Not sure if there are suppose to be options for interview dates, I only had one available. There's still hope pre-Dec!

Is there hope though? I'm guessing Houston does their interviews weekly on Mondays and your interview date is the last Monday before Dec 1st (not trying to sound pessimistic) but pre-Dec interviews are probably over 🙁

Just chill winston. The world doesn't end with pre dec interviews. I know tons of people with post dec interview/acceptances in my class.

No yeah I agree. No need to freak out. Just don't keep your hopes up for a pre-Dec interview is all I'm saying

Did anyone get prematch offers from A&M yet? I know it's just the first day and not even the end of the day, but I'm really anxious. Does anyone know how common it is to receive a prematch offer not on the first day? Since it is technically open until the end of December?

Wrong thread. Dental doesn't have prematch.
