Are the 2 optional essays really optional or are they "optional?" I think I can answer the diversity one, but not the special circumstances one (I don't think I have any special circumstances, either that or I have to think harder for one). Are you guys answering both of those optional questions?

Also, how long are you guys writing about your philosophy of the medical profession and about your goals relevant to the profession. My PS is getting pretty long, and I don't know how much more can fit!

I had the same question a while ago and I'm not going to put anything down. I think that if you really have to stretch to put something down or if you've already mentioned it somewhere in your application, it's not worth it.

I know my goals part is going to be really short but the philosophy part is shaping up to be sort of long. I think what I'm going to do is combine those two sections into one paragraph. We'll see. I still need my "editor" to read my statement. Sigh, I hope I'm not denied because the statement is mediocre, it's really difficult to write.

Yeah, my plan is to have the philosophy and goals in the same paragraph. I'm also worried about my essay being mediocre. I don't think they give us enough space! Let's just cross our fingers and hope everyone else's essays are average too....lol jk

I wrote all of the essays. My opinion is that if you can answer the questions with a well-supported essay, then write the essay. If not, then don't. (i.e. don't try to make yourself into something you're not just to fill up the optional essay box.) Don't put a bunch of B.S. in the box either. That's why they're optional.
