Tmdsas ranking

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How long does it take for TMDSAS to populate your rank list with allt hes chools youve gone to? Some were like 2 months ago and dont show up!

That's dependent more on the schools, not TMDSAS. I would talk to the school if you're all that concerned about it. You've still got, what, 3 or 4 months until the list needs to be submitted?

Also, not to hijack your thread, but can schools see what you've ranked them before the match happens or at all?

Yes they can. In fact Texas schools are very closely related to each other. Here is an example. I recently went on an Interview to San Antonio. The person that interviewed me knew I had an interview at UTSW and at Galveston. I told him that I had not been contacted by Galveston for an interview. Later on I turned on my iPhone and my email dinged and there was an invite to Galveston. He even knew that I didn't take a prep course for my MCAT, but that may have been put in my committee letter. Bottom line is (as I've been told by my adviser) they know where you have interviews if its a TX school, they know what schools you have applied to and they can see where you rank them. If more than one school wants you, they start throwing out incentives for you to come. The TMDSAS system helps them know who is offering you acceptances.

I can't explain your personal anecdote.

But, I'm sorry, nearly everything you've said is wrong--or at least contrary to what I've read on TMDSAS and been told during my interviews.

Schools do not share information on whom they've invited, etc. They do not see where you rank them individually (although they do get reports on how many of their matriculants ranked them #1, #2, etc). That's what TMDSAS is for. You submit your rankings and schools submit theirs. Then the match algorithm spits out where you "matched". You're then automatically withdrawn from all other schools. There are special rules during the waitlist period where if a school accepts you off the waitlist, other schools are notified and noone else is suppose to accept you off their waitlists at that point. Maybe that's what you're referring to?

@ Morzh- I'm not sure where you are getting all this from, but if you log in and go to the ranking page it explicitly states that schools do NOT see your ranking.

I could be, but I was not the only one that this happened too. Another person that interviewed with me was told that he would probably have to make a choice btw UTSW MD/PhD and UTHSCSA MD/PhD. I was told that they all talk to each other and are closely related, but my adviser could be full of it.

That being said, Med schools arent stupid. They know that if there is a strong applicant they are interested in and the applicant would be competitive at a higher tier school, the chances that the applicant will go to the higher tier school are high.

Also, I know for a fact that they can see where you have applied in TX. Someone I interviewed with had my TMDSAS app printed out and there was the list of schools that I had applied to.

Yes, you're right that they can see where else you've applied. But as Morzh and DrGiraffe mentioned, they shouldn't be able to see your rankings.

@Morzh - I meant to write that I agreed with you, and to say to Celerity that I did not understand. Sorry about that.
