Hi guys!

I was initially planning on submitting TMDSAS without my MCAT score to one school to get verified while I wait. I get my MCAT score back at the end of June, but then I saw some posts on here where people were saying not to do this due to so few schools in Texas. What is the general consensus with this? I have no idea what my score will be. My MCAT was BIZARRE and unlike anything I had encountered for CP and PS. I know everyone leaves thinking they did terribly but I really have no idea... Is it a bad idea to submit to one school and withdraw post score if necessary? I'm not even sure which school I would pick.

Thanks!

You can submit to one if you want. But TMDSAS can process and verify your app without it and then when you add the score it will go out in one day. Likewise if you add the rest of the schools they’ll get your app the next day

I have read that you cannot easily add schools once you submit. You have to contact TMDSAS to do this. Do you recommend applying to one school only for verification purposes and then contacting TMDSAS post MCAT release and add the rest of the schools? I have read that it is not the same as AMCAS and is not recommended, so I was feeling very conflicted about it.

See the pages xx and xxi at the end of the handbook, where there is a chart saying which changes can and cannot be made after submission.
It's a simple matter of messaging TMDSAS via their internal messaging system and listing the schools you want to add. Or you can do the same thing right now and ask them about it, they are very responsive to questions 🙂

actually one more question for you. I just was reading through the handbook and it says you are considered a re-applicant via TMDSAS if you have applied to ANY school previously. From my understanding, the one school submission will not save you from being a re-applicant then. Is this correct?

yes but only the school you selected would have ever seen your application before so you would be fresh to the others. Will this be your first year applying? @DokterMom let's help this guy feel ready!

Oh I see. So you're saying I would be considered a re-applicant, but the other schools wouldn't have seen my app, so it would save my personal statement and application. That was my biggest hesitation about applying more than the re-applicant part. I am very happy with my essays and feel they are strong, so I do not want to waste them if I end up doing poorly on the MCAT. It is my first year applying. I'm a nontrad with a unique app and have been doing postbacc work since 2016. Hoping to get some interest with my post bacc GPA, my resumé and my writing skills. Hopefully the MCAT comes through for me. The average of my FL's is right around or above the mean for most Texas schools, but my exam date was super weird and now I don't know what to expect.
