i read and read alot of forums all day today. i started at 8am and still going. your all doing a great job.

anyways

i want to know how hard it is to get to dental school. are there any people in here that have add or adhd and have a hard time concentrating? im about to be in a university and i know its going to be a lot harder that a cc but is it THE TIME YOU PUT IN or is that you pick up on subjects real fast. just wandering to see if some people are like me. im sure if i study ill do fine but i want to hear everyones suggestions about their experience in college courses.

well if you are coming from CC just first make sure if you are going to apply to dental school that the ones you are interested in accept CC course work....i myself did not attend cc but i have read a lot about schools not liking pre-reqs done at CCs

predental students come in all shapes and sizes and disorders. there are rich and poor, foreign born and family came on the mayflower, religious zealots and hardcore aetheists, dumb ones and smart ones, sporty and nerdy, and all in between. I'm sure there are more than a few ADHD kids as well.

I have Tourette's Syndrome and I have done fine. You've made it this far and that says a lot. If you can concentrate on reading forums all day then you can concentrate on 1 hour lectures from university professors. Good luck buddy.

I was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD when I was young but I have not been medicated for well over 10 years. I think the only time ADD is a handicap for me when I get bored with a subject. Case in point I got a B in my intro biology course and in the same semester I got a A in organic. I a course is too easy I don't put the effort in.

You can definitely work through ADD or ADHD. I've seen people say that they have that or insomnia, but then add that they can't concentrate (or sleep) and end up playing games for 5 hours/night and call it a handicap. Just make sure you keep the partying down a bit when you're at the university and you'll do fine. College isn't hard, it all just comes down to whether or not you care enough to try.

Absolutly anybody can be a dentist or a physician. It's not how smart you are, you just have to be willing to work harder than the next guy. Of course being smart helps, but it is far from the only thing that matters. I always say "fake it, till you make it."
