I got a call on Friday morning around 11:30ish asking if I was still interested in attending Downstate and then offering me acceptance.
So don't give up hope--I thought it was over but they are clearly still accepting people...

I got the call this morning from Illana Levine. Yesterday I called in to ask about transcripts and when they needed it. I asked them again about ppl on the wait list and if they were still accepting ppl. The lady said yes. Then I asked if a lot of ppl usually get in off the WL. She said yes again. Then I asked how long will I hafta wait and she said "Not too long". I didnt know what to think of that but I didnt put much weight into it. However, this morning I got a call from "Unavailable Number" and it was Downstate offering me a spot.

I am sooo excited. Good luck to all of you still waiting... There's still a chance!

hey guys. i was also on "alterna list" as of last thursday, but also got a call today at around 10:30 am from an unavailable number and was asked if i was still interested in downstate and then accepted!!! i was so happy i was shaking!!! forget stonybrook, i am going to downstate!!!! keep the faith all.

those of you guys getting accepted. Have you sent in all your paperwork (health clearence/CPR/transcript, etc) that was received on June 30th. And do you guys know if how quickly the paperwork is returned to them affects the likelihood of being accepted or not?

I only faxed in the form to stay on the wait-list. I was in the process of getting the transcripts and medical records, but I haven't done that yet. They told me that at this point, it doesn't affect things, but later on, it will affect decisions because it's more likely for you to be able to start classes if you have all your paperwork in order.

Does anybody know how many students are there total on the Alternate list, and how many students might be taken. I'm wondering because if there is a lot of effort and money going into getting Lab tests/CPR classes/Doctor's Exams, and then if you didn't get in off the waitlist that would not be cool. I'm also an out of state candidate, and I don't know of downstate keeps two lists or one big alternate list.

hey guys got some news for everyone...i called downstate today, the admissions officer said that they have some more openings and need to fill up the class and that they will be making offers soon, also he said that it is important to send in ur stuff asap cause those that have their stuff in will be looked at first. he said we just need to be a lil more patient..so there should be some movement the next few days

I found out that even if you're cleared by the health office, that it can take a week for admisisons to get that verificiation. This is a slow process getting all the required physicals, and paperwork in and then hoping to get accepted. I hope that after doing all this that most of us get in.

Not a sound over here! Question guys, did any of you get all of your blood work in? Are you cleared with Student Health Services? If you are clear with them, did you make sure that you are clear with the Admission's office too? It seems that the Student Health Servics and the Admissions office are having trouble communicating. Did anyone call to see if there has been any movement this week? Still keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!!!!

the health office told me i was clear but when i called admisisons they said sometimes it takes a week for the word to get to them, and I was not officially cleared by them. Maybe I should call and see if this went through.

Health clearence, even if they say you're cleared over the phone, can take a while to get word to the admissions office (They keep telling me i'm not cleared yet). It's nice to follow up w/ an email or phone call to make sure they have everything. Sometimes I doubt this promptness will really make much of a difference, but just incase it doesn't hurt to make sure all your paperwork is okay.

I was running around my job yelling, 'Limbo got in!! Nomad got in!!' And everyone was like, 'Who the heck is Limbo and Nomad what did they get into!???' It was funny! And after I explained to them the situation, they said that you should change your names because your not in limbo anymore, nor are you a nomad!!! They said you should change your screename to "NO MO'LIMBO" (AKA No more limbo! Just incase you didn't get it!)

Once again congrats and pass some of that success over to us, because it wasn't luck, you deserve it!!!!

Hi, you guys don't know me, but after seeing your posts saying couple of you got accepted I just had to say congratulations. This is my first post and I have been following your posts "religously", thinking I might one day be in your shoes hopefully if I'm lucky. I don't even belong in this post but I've been checking about more than 3 times everyday. (Does this mean stalking? 🙄 ) I'm retaking mcats for august, april wasn't so good 🙁 , since I threw myself into the 2006 cycle. During breaks from studying I've been reading your posts thinking that if you guys got in then just maybe I might have a chance too, I don't know why I thought like that. I would really like to go to downstate too hopefully I'll be one of you guys around next year. Anyways congrats again to those who got in, and believe when I say this but I'm also crossing my fingers for those of you waiting for "that" call.

They called me early in the morning, well aroud 11:30am(it is not that early, but I been on vacation so it seems early to me). They did this after I have everything set up at another school too, but I think the in-state tuition should cover all the money I would lose at the other school so I will probably go.

i have no idea. they didnt say anything about it. as far as i know you have to have that in by aug 1, no? they dont even have all my transcripts yet, so i really think all you need to have in is your alternate form.
