To drop or not to drop?

So I'm in this required lab for a BS in biochem. Because I've missed about three weeks of labs doing interviews my performance is totally sub-par. If I drop the class I can only graduate with a BA. If I stay in I would barely pass.
I have fulfilled all the requirements for a BS in Biology. My applications state that I'm getting a double BS in Biochem and Biology. Should I drop the class or should I stay in it?

I'd talk to the professor. Explain to him/her about the interviews and that you really don't want to drop the class and you are more than willing to put in any extra work/time into the class. Maybe he'll let you make up the missed labs. What's the worst that can happen ... he could say no and then you drop the class. Good Luck!

quake, I totally understand where you're coming from. Because of interviews last semester, I took only three courses last semester and am overloading on courses this semester. I am literally getting stomped on. I don't have time to do problem sets or to study for all my exams. I am still hanging on by the skin of my teeth and hopefully I can make it through... Just remember in a few more months, stupid undergrad will be all over.

quake, I also understand, coming from an undergrad that does not see med school interviews as a viable reason for a dean's excuse. that sucks! I think you should hang in there and try to go pass/fail on the course. Is that possible? Here you can switch the grading of your course, but there is a deadline. check it out. you just want a P after all.

I am in a similar situation with a biochem lab. Although it looks like i will do ok. I scheduled the lab on tuesday and my prof wouldn't let me rescheudle it at all, if i missed one lab, it an automatic faliure. I had to really delay one of my interviews from feb to april so that i can go after this lab is over! no sympathy here either!

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to take required courses pass/fail.
Thanks for the input so far though guys. You are all awesome. I have to decide soon since the final drop date is approaching swiftly.

Wait as long as you can and see if you can pull at least a C in the class (wait unitl the last day possible to drop it if you do) A "C" would keep you in med school (i'm pretty sure)(that is, if you've been accepted) then you wouldn't have to deal with questions about why you didn't get a BS. Do the best you can to stay in the class and pass!!

How about calling the schools you hold acceptances at and asking them what they think?

I'm about to get killed in midterms next week. 😀 It's not going to be a fun week... :wink:

I've decided to stick it out. But I think I still have a shot to pull off a decent GPA this term. I could drop all of my courses, and graduate without my honours degree, but I've already put so much effort into things, that it just seems like a waste.

Personally, given the choice between having a D or an F on my transcript, and graduating with a lower degree, I'd avoid the D or the F...
