I'm looking for some unbiased opinions from people in similar situations who's received multiple interview invites.

I was just invited to interview at University of Maryland and accepted the invite, but I'm having second thoughts about it. I really like the school but am not sure if I should interview there or not.

Cons:

- I am already accepted to OSU
- I interviewed at UCSF and feel really really good about how my interview went, meaning this was by far the most solid interview and I couldn't have done any better
- I still have another interview in Michigan in late March and I'd prefer Michigan over Maryland if UCSF doesn't work out
- I got another interview invite that I turned down, and there is a possibility I'll get more as I applied to more schools
- It will cost me at least 600 $ for flight, hotel and shuttle go to to that interview
- I am taking 7 !!!!, that's right 7 classes, 4 of which are upper division science and one of which is a master's level class, so if I go, I lose almost 2 days out of my schedule and can screw myself up as I have 2 exams the next day after I get back ( this concerns me most )
- I can't afford to not do well in my classes as I'm graduating with two majors and need those classes for my 2nd major

Pros:

-My best friend got into John Hopkins and we could live together if I got in
- School is higher ranked than OSU

What do you, guys, think: should I interview there or not ?

First, congrats on your acceptance into OSU. As for UMB, I was in a similar situation. If i were you, I would do the interview and weigh out the pros and cons after you get accepted.

Personally, I think UMB is a pretty reputable school and you should really check it out first before you absolutely turn it down. If money and time is really an issue and you know you definitely don't want to attend, then don't do it. But I personally wouldn't put those factors into consideration because this is your future. Any amount of time and money we put into during this admissions/interview process is a well worth investment for your future.

good luck!

First of all, congrats on your acceptance this year! I believe this is a personal decision, but I say skip the Maryland interview and go to Michigan's. If you get into UCSF or Michigan, you won't go there anyway, and it's not like you don't already have an acceptance in hand.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I have also been invited to UMB. I am thinking about turning it down because the last date is around the first week in march. I interviewed with creighton & univ of new mexico on january and have been accepted to both. I interviewed with washington state & western this weekeend. I think being accepted is an important factor. If you liked your visit to OSU, then interviewing @ UMB may not be such a huge priority. I looked up the flights and hotel info, they are pretty expensive. But you also have school to worry about. I am probably going to turn down the interview. Goodluck to whatever you choose and hopefully you get into UCSF!

Thanks for everyone's opinions. Anyone else has any input ? I'm still so torn up about this and can't make up my mind. I wish we could find out our UCSF decisions sooner, so I wouldn't be worried so much and wouldn't have to go to this interview.

I think you should go to the interview. Yes you have 7 classes and I can't imagine how many more exams, but like you already mentioned; you've already gotten accepted somewhere. So as long as you pass those classes, you're going to be attending pharmacy school somewhere this upcoming fall.

Worse comes to worse, you can take a W on one or two of your 7 classes and still graduate with one major. In the end, it wouldn't matter too much if you have 1 or 2 undergrad. degree(s) since it's the pharmD that will ultimately earn you a pharmacy residency spot or a pharmacy job. If you can complete an extra 1 or 2 classes in the summer; perhaps, you can still graduate with 2 majors??

On a positive note, and in the long run, you have almost nothing to loose by going to this interview, but possibly gain an acceptance letter from the University of Maryland COP.

If you like UMB as I think you do, you should definitely check it out. 🙂

You should first decide with zero ambivalence whether you prefer OSU or UMB. If you prefer the former, then there is obviously no utility in attending the UMB interview.

You have interviews at 2 schools that you prefer (UCSF & UM) so I would not attend the UMB interview. You sound like you have a crazy schedule (7 classes with exams around the potential interview date, etc.) so focus on doing well on these classes and never look back.

If I was in your shoes, I would not attend solely because of financial reasons. The travel costs could get you halfway to a top-of-the-line laptop. If $ is not a big concern, then go ahead and attend.

With that being said, I was accepted to UMB, and the school community there is awesome.

i was in this exact same position last month and it kinda comes down to what state you're in and if you can get into a good school and still end up paying instate tuition. i got into osu aswell and then turned down my interview at maryland last month while still waiting for michigan's interview. i just interviewed at michigan last week and its my top choice school so i'm waiting to hear back. i also got into wayne state which would be cheaper then going out of state but now i'm curious if anybody thinks its worthwhile going to osu and paying more if i get declined at umich?

I was in a similar situation when I was invited for an interview by them. I have already been accepted to other schools. I ended up deciding not to go due to financial reasons and I am already happy with the schools that I have been accepted to. Also, if those courses you are taking right now are important for pharmacy school then I would recommend just focusing on that. That's just my two cents. Good luck with the decision!
