Hello all. Been a while since I've posted. Guess life has gotten busy.
I was just curious if other programs are feeling the strain of the economy. Ours seems to be feeling it in a different way which I guess could be construed as good. We've noticed an increase in the number of cases we are performing.
Now we are running more ORs later and it seems the reason is the hospital makes the most money off the ORs so why not run them more frequently? Problem is the anesthesia and surgery departments are taking the brunt of the work (and I'm not talking a increase in resident leanring cases like CT, neuro, vascular). I'm talking ortho, gen surg and gyn. Cases that almost any first year resident can perform. Now, I'm trying to stay positive about the change since I know that every case I do makes me a better anesthesiologist in the end but, the problem is that reading time has significantly dropped off.
Is anyone else seeing this at their program?
