Hello,

Im confused on what I should do when this date approaches. I know many dental schools require that students take biochemistry and I believe that 80% of students entering dental school have taken biochemistry.

I plan on applying for the 2012 cycle, so i will be applying next summer 11', but I am debating on whether I should take biochemistry before I apply, or is it still safe to take it during the fall semester after I apply. I wouldnt want this to hinder my chances of being accepted into dental school if I take it during the fall.

What do you all recommend that I do?
Would dental schools take into account my courses in progress incase I took biochemistry in fall 11?

Thank you in advance.

i know tufts, who requires biochem, considers your application without biochem as long as you take it before you enter.

you should do research, but generally, schools look at your application without some of the required courses, but you MUST complete them before entering.

i would personally take it before i apply.

I'd take it before I apply. I applied two years ago and in my interview, the adcom specifically asked why I hadn't taken biochemistry yet. It may have had a small hand in me not getting in, but who knows! Just my experience...

Thanks for the information, I will consider it. Im a bit unsure if I should take it spring 11' because I will have a full course load and also be studying for the DAT test.

The way I think about it is... if you have a lot of other upper level biology classes already like cell bio, anatomy, physiology, genetics, then the adcoms can say oh he did well in those thats good enough. Then you can take biochem after applying (senior year).

If you have not taken any, then they can't judge if you will be able to handle harder biology classes. So then taking biochem before applying would be a good idea.

I am taking biochem after I applied.

Thanks Undergrad guy, Yeah I have taken those upper level classes and have recieved A's in them, so hopefully they would consider it.

Thanks again.

Just take it and get over with. You must be smart guy and I am sure you can get A, A- in it. It is nit brain surgery, it is only a BCEM
