I know this topic has been discussed, but I wanted experienced SDNers' thoughts (i.e. people who have been through the same thing already)...

I told one school's ADCOM that I've been accepted to other schools but that I want to go to their school (1st choice) and am still attending their interview. Is this bad?? 😕

I assume that they called you when they invited you for the interview? Why would you tell them this? This is what happens when we talk too much, lol.

What's done is done though.... I don't think it was a good idea, but I doubt it'll hurt you too much, if at all.

Just wondering why you think it's a bad idea?

I only think it's bad because they might feel like you are using it for leverage to influence their decision. It may be flattering that you want to go to their school but because you said that, you are at their mercy whether they want you or not. I would never tell an adcom this because they should want to feel like taking you in without you having to tell them that someone else saw potential in you and took you in already. Who knows, maybe it'll have the opposite effect and maybe they want you now because the person who accepted you is their nemesis lol.

This.

Interesting...

Gotcha, thanks!

I probably should have asked this question BEFORE telling them lol
Hopefully I haven't messed anything up. I will update after my interview and tell you guys how it goes, in case any of you SDNers are curious.

One more thing, what do I say if asked what school has already accepted me? Just flat out tell them?

Ya you tell them. This isn't even a question. 1. If they ask u, don't lie. 2. It makes u look good, esp if the school is well regarded. 3. I don't think there's a problem w telling a program that you are highly interested in that you want to attend their program. As long as u transition into good reasons for why u want to attend and are sincere with ur answers, no begging, u can't convince me that's it's a bad decision.

I said the same thing during my interview. I was accepted at my #1 choice. Don't worry about it.

Okay, so nothing bad happened. I got into my top choice ;D

Good, glad to hear this. In my recent interview at my #1 choice, they flat out asked how my application season was going/if I was being successful. I told them I was fortunate enough to have an acceptance, but for me, their school was the one that really counted. I was just honest, and hopefully there aren't any weird consequences to this. I mean, they are my top choice, and I didn't feel strange about telling them so. I would have never thought of this as being a bad thing.

I don't know if it matters too much. I wondered about this myself when I was interviewing and chose not to mention that I was accepted at other schools, and it all worked out. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It all depends on how they take it.

Personally, it should be flattering to think that you would pay to come out and visit their school even though you were accepted elsewhere. It should show them your genuine interest in their school. Hopefully they see it that way.
