Hey guys, so pretty much I am an undergraduate in college. I am having a rough freshman year. I had an A in Gen Chem my first semester and a C in Computer Science. Second semester, it seems like I might have a C in Inorganic Chemistry. I have B's mostly in all my classes, a couple of A's and 1 W in a class that I retook and got a B. Can you guys please let me know how badly this is going to hurt me later on? You think I should change my major or look into other fields besides Medicine or is it too early to give up. Do you know of anyone who might have had a really bad freshman year but got back up later on? Please I want you honest opinion. Thanks a lot.

Give up? Way too early.
Change major? Maybe, whats your major? Do you enjoy it? Do you believe you can get good grades in it? Do you want to do this as a career if medicine fails? Realistically if you answered no to any of those questions you should be considering changing your major.
Remember medical schools don't care about your major choice, they just care about performance. So feel free to major in art history if you truly enjoy that.

I have always wanted to do medicine ever since and so far, my best hasnt been good enough in my freshman year. I am not saying that I can make all A's the rest of my year, but I also cant guarantee that I wont rack up a couple more B's or even 1 or 2 more C's. But at this point right now, with 2 C's, I dont know how badly it impacts my transcript when applying to med schools. Do you have any experiences or maybe someone who might have been in the same position as I am but later made it through nicely?

Freshman year I had an F in calc (didn't retake), a D+ in gbio (retook 4 an A) and had a cumulative gpa of 2.5, but I worked my butt off and graduated with a 3.5, took a year off, and got accepted to my #1 choice MD school. I will be starting this fall. It is way too early to give up. You obviously still want to pursue this dream so do it. Just analyze what you did wrong and try to change it. If you have trouble in the future, ask for help (tutoring, other students) the second you notice the issue. Don't wait until you are in a hole to make a change. Good luck.

Whats your major? Biology?

No I am a chemical engineering major actually

Ha.. Yah Chemical engineering = lowest average gpa in most colleges. I'd avoid it if I were you unless your capacity for mathematics if beyond the average genius.
