I have a question..

I have applied to advance PM&R and TY years. I have interviews for PM&R but none for TY and now I am freaking out. Is it too late to apply to prelim med? I researched and found a bunch of programs that have deadlines of January 1st and I need to know if I am throwing my money away or should I apply this late. I really do not want to scramble! Please any help would be great.

It's gonna cost you 60 bucks to apply to 10. Apply to those that haven't reached deadline yet, hopefully less competitive community programs and see what happens. You can even call and inquire individually from the programs to see if you can still submit an application, or are they pretty much done with interviews. But don't worry too much, you can always scramble into a prelim medicine spot, there will be likely a few in the scramble.

So I sucked up the 60 bucks (I mean what is 60 bucks in the whole scheme of medicine!) and I applied to 10 programs in community based areas. I hope that I will get some sort of response. I will keep you posted. Anyone else getting nervous about having to scramble? Is there any place I can find out how to best prepare myself for the scramble this year?

I am a USIMG and I have no dean's office and no faculty member to call on my behalf that I can get in touch with. I have to do this all on my own!! Should I use my family members to answer the phone? I already feel like I am at a disadvantage....

ECFMG will serve as your Dean's office.

Family members can answer the phone but you need to be available to speak to PDs during the scramble.

Am I at a disadvantage since no "faculty member" can call on my behalf. ECFMG is the dean's office to thousands of applicants. Is there anything I can do to up my chances of getting a prelim spot in the scramble as a USIMG??

The ECFMG doesn't help anyone scramble.

Your best options in the scramble:

1. Clear your schedule of other tasks. Plan on using the entire afternoon.
2. Get some help -- friends, family
3. 2 phones and a fax are best, but you can live with less.
4. Get all of your paperwork together beforehand, ready to send.
5. Consider using a website to scan/contain your documents. Then, if a program requests them, you can email them or they can download them directly.
6. Be prepared for lots of "no's", busy signals, and answering machines.
7. Do not overshoot. If Hopkins has an open spot, you're not going to get it. Don't waste your time, as spots fill quickly.

Good luck!

Thank you

That is my plan as of now I just need to figure out what is and is not overshooting....
