Hi all,

I have decided to apply to podiatry school after I have shadowed few podiatrists and I found that this is what I really wanna do in the future. But I have not taken mcat ye!
I'm a biology major and my gpa is 3.86 and science gpa is 3.92. I was involved in a research program that will be published in 2014. I have many hours of shadowing & volunteering. I'm planing to take mcat in march 2014 . So I know I will get my mcat score in April 22 . Now do you guys think it will be too late to apply at that time? I can also take January mcat but I rather march test date because I'm taking too many classes right now and getting ready for mcat is kind of hard but not impossible... Hit me with your suggestions.... Thanks in advance 🙂

Applications are open until June. Some of the smaller programs may be close to their caps by the end of April but you should be in good shape for larger classes. If I was in your shoes I would take the MCAT in January or February though. I understand the struggle to find time to study, but in all reality, you don't need to blow it out of the water, and a disciplined study schedule during Christmas break should be plenty of preparation.

Also, an advantage of taking it earlier is if you get your results back and they're less than desired, you have time to study a bit more and take it again.

Clearly you have a good grasp of science. Take the MCAT in January and just review the material and focus on how to take the MCAT when you're free. No need to get a 30+ on it for pod school. Zalligan is right about the smaller schools and it would be a shame for someone with your grades and EC's to be limited simply because some schools' seats are filled.

If you are certain that you want to get in next fall, my suggestion would be to apply as soon as possible with pending MCAT scores. This way the schools will receive your information and have it on file. Some school will filter out students without MCAT scores and will not grant interviews though, so this is something to keep in mind. Taking the test in January or February would be my recommendation as you will have better chances of selecting schools (interview sooner) that tend to fill seats fast/early (i.e. school with smaller class size). Take the challenge of studying for the MCAT in the winter time and get it done and over with. This challenge is similar to what you will have to do when it comes to boards, so it will be a good practice or gauge with a busy schedule. I think prolonging the MCAT can only hurt you, although it's not past the deadline yet. Best of luck.

I think this really comes down to what school(s) you want to go to (or at least check out). If you are looking at just the bigger schools, then April is probably fine. If you are considering like AZPOD, DMU, or Western, you would be better suited to just study a little during winter break and take the MCAT. You don't need to shoot for a 45 to get into pod school.

Thanks every one for replying back. I just signed up for January MCAT 🙂
