Hey everyone,

I am new to this site, as well as posting on this site, so any help I could get would be awesome. I am currently a Senior in college and am very interested in Podiatry. I was turned on to it late when I actually met a Podiatrist at the restaurant I work at over breaks. I know that the application cycle has already opened and I would be late to applying, but I would love to not have a gap year in between undergrad and podiatry school. My application will be at it's strongest at the end of my senior year with credentials probably:

GPA: 3.2ish
Science GPA: 2.8ish
MCAT: 25
a bunch of extra-curricular activities/volunteering
shadowing of a DPM

If I apply in May, does anyone think that I would get accepted? Or would it be smarter to wait until the next application cycle and take the gap year? Thanks in advance everyone!

If "2.8ish" means above a 2.75 why are you waiting to apply? Give it a shot. You may get some invites from schools with a larger class size.

As long as you presently meet the minimum requirements of whatever school(s) you are interested in, I wouldn't think December is too late to apply.

I gave the estimates of my GPA because I want to apply at the end of the year (give or take May) but I don't know the exact numbers. I know I should send in my application with my strongest credentials, that's why I want to wait until then. Is it worth it to take a shot in May and apply or would I be better off waiting until the next cycle?

I do think applying that late may preclude your acceptance without some exceptional reason the admissions department would like you to be admitted. I didn't apply to any larger schools, however, so maybe they would have enough fluctuation at that time among accepted students that you could get in. If you meet the applicant requirements, it seems like applying now might be better for you. You can always apply with your better stats for the next year if things didn't pan out. I don't know if you'd be in a better position with larger schools if you go the way you described, though.

Would it hurt my chances for the next application cycle if I apply in December and don't get admitted?

I really don't think so. On the application, you will have to disclose that you've applied to the schools before, but it wont stop you from getting an interview with your stats. Furthermore, it would be really easy to explain during the interview, if it's even brought up at all.

I would say go for it and apply this cycle ASAP. You might not get the smaller schools like AZPOD becase their seats are likely close to being filled up, but i'm sure you would get acceptances at 2 or 3 bigger schools.

ahhh. i hope azpod isn't full cause that's the only school i've applied to lol

Why not apply now. DMU and AZPOD tend to fill. I think also here that Barry tends to fill. None the less may is not too late for the likes of TUSPM, Scholl, Kent as they still take people in june and july. The one thing though 2.75 I think cuts you off at DMU and AZPOD, so be sure your 2.8ish is just that.
