Hey guys,

In this past week, I have received 3 secondaries from the three schools I applied to. My pre-med committee letter is in the process, however I haven't shadowed a DO yet. I was wondering how long you guys shadowed for... I'm going to start shadowing an ortho surgeon next week and I hope to have a couple of weeks with him. I just wanted to see what you guys did.

Many thanks in advance.

My recent shadowing was 2 Drs for 1 day each. I had done some other shadowing a number of years ago.

If you send in your secondaries before you shadow maybe you can list that you are scheduled to shadow Dr *Jones* and Dr *Smith*. And/Or, perhaps, you can send a brief letter after you shadow so that they have something in your file.

Dr. Mom,

Thanks for getting back to me. When it came to the DO writing a letter of recommendation, did you feel that 1 day was enough for them to write something strong about you -- or did you have another source for your letter?

I have mulltiple long-time family friends who are DOs and two of them wrote letters for me.

If you're needing the DO letter from someone who you are shadowing, they I'd recommend spending at least a few days with them first.

Hi-

As to your question about shadowing, I did the majority of my shadowing work with D.O.'s during the summer that I applied to medical school. While I did have significant experience shadowing a variety of health professionals (i.e. MDs, PA-Cs, etc.) prior to then, there was very little shadowing that I did exclusively with a D.O. As long as they see that you did work with a D.O. and that you have a significant amount of clinical experience/exposure, they should look upon you favorably. Good luck!
