  1. Optometry Student
Hey guys!

So I recently got interested in Optometry & I'm wondering if it's too late in the game to apply for this cycle. I'm really hoping to be accepted to SUNY.

I have a 3.61 GPA. I haven't taken the OAT yet, but I've taken the MCAT, so hopefully my studying for that will be beneficial.

Is it too rushed if I get all of my recommendation letters within the next month/month + half, and take the OAT in December?

Thanks so much!

I think you should go for it as long as you know you want to do it. I also took the MCAT and the OAT seemed really easy in comparison. I'm guessing you've already done some shadowing or have some experience that demonstrates your recent interest in the field.

I say you have decent chances as long as you apply quickly and do well on the OAT (320 for AA would be considered pretty competitive, but SUNY's standards are higher so do as well as you can!)

I would do it! That is a nice GPA and if you do well on the OAT you are a good candidate!

thanks for the advice guys! I'm actually going to hold off though. I was considering applying junior year since some schools accept 90 credits instead of a bachelors, but I've decided it'll be best to get a bachelors first. and then I can apply right away for even better chances.
