Took CS Today, worried I failed!

Hello folks, today I took the CS in Philly and am super worried that I failed it.
The things that stick out the most in my mind is that I left the Diagnostic Tests blank at the bottom of I think 3 patient notes.
It was either 3 missing diagnostic tests or maybe 2 missing diagnostic tests and 1 missing PE note.

I guess I did not manage my typing time properly and also I completely would forget about it, being that they are at the bottom of the page and that you have to scroll down.

I feel like I did pretty well on everything else.

Has anyone else had a similar problem of leaving entire portions of the note blank due to running out of time? And did they happen to pass? I am praying that I pass but if I do not, I will understand and just suck it up and retake it. All I can do now is wait and see. I will be sure to practice typing the patient note a bit more.

Well most people who have taken the new CS format have not gotten their results yet so they won't know until you know I guess. I would just advise you to relax now since there isn't much you can do. I know of people who have taken the old exam and filled in two or three DDx and two or three Diagnostic test out of 5 and still passed. I don't know about leaving an entire sections blank.

Most people come out of CS thinking about all the things they have missed and feel they might fail but end up passing. Relax....

I dont know if in anyway this is a similar situation since I took it last year with the old format but I completely forgot to put menstrual history on ALL the women's cases and many more important points that I had jotted on a few cases. Majority of my differentials were 2 or 3 since I couldnt think of 5 everytime and time ran out. I also thought I did well on 6 - 7 cases and one was absolutely crappy but passed in the end...so u never know..its over so just relax and good luck to you.

I don't think it was necessary to have 5 in the ddx for each block. If you look at FA CS, they always have quite a few, but the more extensive the list the less likely they are. I tried to put 3 on all of them, but had 2 on a couple cases. In my opinion the reasoning behind the differential is an unreasonable expectation on a time and character-limited note. If you want me to type out an explanation why I believe something is in the ddx, you should provide with with ample opportunity and instruction on how you want something to be explained. The poor explanation on how to explain the ddx with physical exam and history findings was particularly frustrating for me.

If I had to do it over again I would have taken it quite a bit early, before the changes and in time that I could retake it before the match if I need to. With this delay in reporting I'm not sure it is going to happen if I fail.

My heart goes out to all those students who excelled third year and then bombed CS for no good reason.

There's a big margin for error on this test. Just a heads up. There is a good chance you did not fail. You may still pass if you left a few parts of a note or 2 close to blank.

OP, don't stress yourself out until you get your score. There's a good chance you passed because it is understood there is a large time constraint.

Opened up my score report today, and with great pleasure, I found out that I passed! 🙂

I was super nervous because I had left a bunch of text boxes completely blank on about 3 or 4 of the patients due to running out of time while typing. I guess I was not managing my time properly, but it looks like there was a large margin for error in that part, I guess.

Happy that my english speaking skills were off the chart, probably helps that I am a native. I am sure that it is difficult for non native speakers, and I take this for granted, but I am sure that with much practice, and careful attention during speaking with the actor patients, you can manage this part well enough.

I hope anyone that feels nervous after taking this test finds this thread and can find some comfort in knowing that I, a fellow of borderline goldfish intellect, managed to pass, and that you most likely will too!

Congratulations on passing. I'm an IMG who just got done with Step 1. Could you mention the resources you used for CS?

I found it to be not too difficult as the "patients" tended to help you out when you were there but I always had the format in my mind to hurry and have time. Even with a good physical etc... they can't score really without your sheet. Hopefully there was enough info there that you made the grade!
