oldest/youngest/cheapest/etc
This is fantastic and should be added to the FAQ.
Well...if youre going to judge the DO schools amongst themselves at least use quantifiable numbers rather than opinion. I know I have my own opinions, but for me to say that School A is "better" than School B would be based on my own outside opinions of that school and have no validity.
In order to define what makes a school the "best" is also an issue of debate.
Does board score pass rate make a school the best? What about quality of clinical rotation sites? Money? Research? Percentage of grads matching into radiology and opthalmology....or family medicine and pediatrics?
Best is what is best for you.
PCOM was best for me. Probably best for others, but not all. Pikeville or Texas is best for others whereas they wouldnt feel as comfortable at PCOM for whatever reason.

DMU should be on your lowest tuition list. It is $31,700 this year.
this list is amazing! haha thank you
.
TCOM tuition is $10,500 not $6500 and set to go up again next year.
You forgot LMU as the youngest DO school. Don't mean to be a smarta** just had to add that so that I can get Pikeville off the youngest list.

Only going by the information provided by AACOM

Being nit picky here - but tuition is $6500 (for 2005-2006), it's the fees that shoot the number up close to ten grand. JP listed tuition. So his numbers are correct.

Ahhh those sneaky "fees"
gotta love it when the "fees" are almost as much as tuition

I don't know about the top 5, but I do know about the best DO school in the country...
That would be COMP.

Interesting. I was under the impression that West Virginia was a blue state. I often see, "I am a Christian and a Democrat" bumper stickers around some of the churches here.😛

best post ever.
COMP is 220 for my class right now, and altough it was founded in 1977 the original osteopathic college of physicians and surgeons from which it grew out of was founded in the early 1900s. It was converted into UC-Irvine medical school when osteopathy was outlawed in california during the 60s and ealy 70s. Once the supreme court ruled that osteopathy was ok COMP was founded like 2 years later but the old college people.
Yes i paid attention to this the first week of class. 🙂
Also, comp was rated the most selective private Osteopathic school.

FWIW, Michigan State, TCOM and WVCOM all are ranked as top 50 primary care schools by USNews.
OSU-COM Ranked
* 20th in rural medicine - I'm assuming because 54% stay in Oklahoma and 24% are in communities under 10,000
* 45th in primary care - somewhere upwards of 70% stay in primary care fields by choice.
but who puts that much stock in the rankings?

No offense. But when the school sold out they lost all claim to the 1900 founding.
At least in my list.

LECOM and LECOM-B = ~25,000 in state, $26,000 out of state.
I believe this makes the LECOMs the cheapest private DO schools.

Yeah, I'm a little confused too, but $26,000 for out-of-state tuition in a beach resort area was something that really attracted me. How can you beat that? Well, spending $45,000 in the middle of nowhere just doesn't seem to compare to me. Yet, I am biased. I guess thong bikinis on the beach in January is not something that most people want to see. Who'd figure that?
