anyone have an explanation on how to figure this one out, can't seem to picture it or use the line counting. plz help!

Well according to the answers, all of the shapes are hexagons. So you have 3 hexagons stacked on top of each other. So from the top view, figure out where the top hexagon is located (either front, offset left, or offset right.
Answer A shows that the top hexagon, is left. Which is why you see solid lines on the left hexagon.
Answer B shows that the top hexagon is in front of all others.
Answer C shows top hexagon to the right.
Answer D shows it to the right as well.
From our clues, (end view) we know that the top hexagon is in front of all of the other hexagons. Therefore, answer B is correct.
Let's confirm B. From the front view, we see that the middle hexagon is on the right. Looking at Answer B, we see that the right shape has solid lines and the left shape has dashed lines. This means that the left hexagon is the bottom shape.
Hope this makes sense.

Yea, problems like this make line counting useless.
So the first thing I noticed when I saw this problem are the answer choices. They're all similar so that gives you a clue as to what the actual shape is supposed to look like. Looking at the front view, I can see that this object appears to be several shapes stacked on top of each other. When I look at the answer choices, I get 2 pieces of information: the three layers are made up of small symmetrical hexagons and that the hexagons overlap in a way that will form the outline of the answer choices. Based on that, I look at the front view again and notice that the top layer is in the "middle", the second layer is more towards the right, and the bottom layer is more towards the left. Next I look at the end view and see that same top layer from the front view now sticks out to the left. That means that when you look at the front view again, the top layer is sticking out at you. So the top view must have a hexagon towards the bottom (or the "front") of the object. When looking at the answer choices, only choice B has a solid hexagon towards the bottom ("front"), which is the same hexagon you see sticking out from the end view.
Choice A shows the solid hexagon at the back left and Choice C and D have solid hexagons at the top right. If either were the case, the front/end views would be different.

Hmm this probably is not a recommended way of finding it but here you go.
If you see the front picture, the top hexagon is to the middle, (middle one is to the right and bottom one is to the left).
If you see the end picture, the top hexagon is to the left = front.
So we know the top one is to the middle and toward you. Only choice B has a solid lined hexagon to the bottom = toward you.
