Hey gang,

I took topscore qr 2 & got an 18, I thought I was going to get a 13, so I was quite relieved. I'm having trouble following the solution for question # 14:

14) In a two dimensional coordinate system, point A = (3,-6), point B = (1,1) & point C = (7,6). Find the area of triangle ABC.

A) 26 B) 24 C) 20 D) 17 1/2 E) 14

I guessed D because I didn't have enough time to finish this problem, but the correct answer is A. I tried using the distance & midpoint formulas, because the legs o the triangle aren't on a straight line, please help clarify the solution for me, thanks a million

That's one of those "Click C and hope it's right" questions. That would soooo take longer than a minute to work!!!!

You know, my point exactly, ::sighs:: & it would be a nice point, if we can find a faster short-cut. This is one of those problems, I'd save until the end, heh

Thanks, DMD, I'll be sure to stick with C, or maybe B when guessing, instead of how I randomly picked D here, lol

I just went over the problem with one of my friend, you have to actually plot it out, & enclose it within a rectangle, find the area of the rectangle, & 3 little right triangles, but again, this is like a good 6 min problem, lol. If anyone knows a faster way, I'd really appreciate it! 🙂
