what is the net ionic equation for the reaction:

HCL (aq) + NaOH (aq) --> H20 (l) + NaCl (aq)

answer: H30+ (aq) + OH- (aq) --> 2H20 (l)

can someone tell me the "thinking" behind arriving at this answer?

The way I did it: H+(aq) + -OH(aq)---> H2O(L)

H+ is the same as H3O+ so to make the equation balanced just add 2 more Hs to the product side now you have 4H on reactant side and 4H on product side
