I normally hang around the pre-vet forum, but thought I'd drop by here to get some opinions. For a long time, I've been planning for vet school. Being a theriogeneologist sounds like a dream job to me. More recently, someone suggested I could also become reproductive endocrinologist. I did some research and it also looks wonderful!

I'm not sure if I'd be happy in any other vet specialty other than therio. The pay is a little sad compared to human med as well.

On the other hand, some of the stuff done in medical school makes me feel a little queasy and I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull through.

I'm going to get experience for both to help me make up my mind better. I'd appreciate any insight that can be added to this post!

Med has better job security and pay. Reproductive endocrinologist I believe you would go OB residency and endocrine fellowship. So you are talking a 9 year path. You need more experience to figure out what you really want to do.

It will be a very long time before you can begin the study and practice of Reproductive Endocrinology.
After getting into medical school, you need to successfully match in Ob-Gyn, excel during 4 years of general Ob-Gyn training (doing relatively little REI), then successfully match into an REI fellowship.

It is advisable to enter Medical school with the understanding that such specific outcomes are not guaranteed. There were plenty of US Seniors that did not match into Ob-Gyn last year and same is true for fellowship.

Try shadowing a reproductive endocrinologist and evaluate whether you like what you see.
