I'm having a pretty tough semester after submitting my application this past summer. I've done decently this application season interview wise but I'm almost certain my GPA is going to take a hit this semester. I'm really hoping and praying for a first acceptance anywhere so that I don't have as much pressure to continue to work to get all A's. Anyone else in a similar situation? And does anyone know what are the minimum requirements to hold onto an acceptance once you have one?

My GPA was a 4.0 when I submitted my application. My last two semesters I got a 3.5 and a 3.3. Nothing bad happened.

The requirements will obviously vary from school to school, but I would aim for As and Bs at the least. Cs might be ok, but it really depends on the school. Call schools anonymously and ask if you're concerned.

I'm in the exact same situation. How am I supposed to miss 10+ days of class for interviews and keep a 4.0?

On a related note, I haven't heard from a lot of my top choices (e.g., any of the UC's...) I wasn't complete until early Sept., so I'm hoping (feebly) that I might get spring interviews at these schools. Do schools commonly request fall grades before deciding on a spring interview invite or acceptance? I'm not planning on C's or anything, but I'm pretty sure a 4.0 isn't happening.

Try to pass/fail a couple of classes that are not necessary for your major. That is my plan👍

What are the final requirements that a typical school needs upon acceptance? I'm assuming a final transcript confirming that the matriculant has graduated. Have people actually lost their acceptances after a particularly bad semester? I think I can make around a 3.3-3.5 this semester but I'm not certain until I take my second round of exams.

I know some schools require you to update your academic progress on the secondary while you're waiting for an interview invite. U of Iowa Carver for example.

There are anecdotes that people have lost their acceptances for not doing as well as they had, but I haven't heard of anyone being rejected with As and Bs (as I said earlier). Cs start to get a little iffy and Fs are definitely a no-go.

Yeah, they need the transcript to make sure you to obtain the degree you said you would on the primary (bachelors or masters or whatever). They want you to "maintain the same level of academic standing you had upon interviewing". Idk if that necessarily means exact same GPA.. During one of my interviews the director of admissions said we can't go from straight A's to straight F's ... And as you can see that opens space for a lot of guess work 🙂 TRY YOUR USUAL BEST to get the grades you're comfortable with. I know senioritis is def kicking in for me too (and the rigorous medschool app process isn't helping either) so I'm not gonna cry over a few B's in my 4th year senior classes 😉

I'm taking a hit as well.. One of the deans told me that I should get nothing worse than Cs

Sad to say but I am aiming for B's this semester. I bombed my biochem exam today. I combination of missing class + senioritis did it for me 🙁

+1
Biochem is a bugaboo at this point in time. The most magical thing happened last night, I fell asleep while reading my textbook, the kicker is how far I got... One. single. paragraph.

Pentose Phosphate Pathway??? TCA cycle??? It's not like I'll ever see this stuff again -- def not in my near future, right? 😉

Books, shmooks, all I can seem to think about is the upcoming snow season. 😍

The Pass / Fail option for nonmajor classes seems like a decent idea if you are open to it OP

Lol i'm only taking courses required for my major. I'm taking biochem and its lab and genetics and its lab. The problem is the labs take so much time to do that I never get to study for the actual class. Oh well I think I can pull B's this semester but hopefully an A also. Good luck battling that senioritis everyone!!!

You think it is bad after submission? Just wait for your first acceptance. Game over. Senioritis is heavy with this one.
LOL, that is why I am glad I am a non-trad. I have no classes I need to take, I just have to do my job at work and wait for next August. The hardest thing for me is hiding the fact that I won't be here in a year, as I want to wait until closer to my last day working to let them know I am leaving. Of course I can't be too worried, since I am writing this from a work computer.... 😛

I did that earlier, and it was a near-direct result of missing too many lectures. Though it hurts for me to say it, I'm aiming for B+'s and A-'s this semester, and if a B squeaks in, that's alright.

Just no C's. My acceptance told me that I'd have to explain 'in writing' why I received a C, and any D was an automatic rejection.

I'm actually doing quite well this semester with 17 credit hours + senior design + doing research.

Only have one B at the moment and have an A+ in 4 classes.

Suck it guys.

at many schools, your acceptance will have a little line noting that they expect your school performance to be maintained, and that a significant drop in gpa is grounds for reconsidering your acceptance. at the school i went to, they required a written explanation for any post-acceptance C's and would automatically reevaluate your acceptance for any D's.

Taking biochem, no motivation. Got a B+ on the first test (before acceptance) and have a test next week (after acceptance) ... yeah we'll see about that one 😛

I'll bet the people who got your spots for latin awards were pleased 😉

Agreed. I have another year and a half until I apply and my employer doesn't know that I'm working up an exit strategy. Working a job and working towards medical school is an awful lot like keeping a mistress.

senioritis hit, and it hit hard. bright side? only potentially 1 B in a non-science course this semester if I do my work correctly

Anybody on the brink of a Latin award? I have to make a perfect.4.0 the whole year to get summa cum laude but it'll be very difficult for me to drop drown to cum laude from magna cum laude. Do you guys think there's much value in getting summa once you're accepted?

So far i'm doing alright and believe that I am still as motivated as before (i.e still do all nighters etc...) but for some reason I find myself extremely tired lately. I believe that it is all of the traveling/stress of the season.

No. Unless there is scholarship money on the line, in which case it's up to you to decide how much that is worth to you.

So i'm bumping my own thread just to say that I somehow salvaged my GPA. I'm not gonna be able to make a 4.0 but it will still be a respectable GPA so I'm glad this application season hasn't distracted me over my present undergrad situation!
