so i'm faced with having to put the ultimate 2 grand down with Touro if i want to go there. The truth is, i do want to go to touro. I just don't literally have the fund available to make the deposit as i am currently jobless and still recovering from the cost of applications. My parents are not available to help me and I don't have a high enough credit limit to charge my deposit. What kind of special request could i make at the same time express my sincere interest in their program? would it be ludicrous to send them just half of the deposit?

Hey mustangrolla, I actually e-mailed them about possible extensions on the deposit and they told me that extensions are generally not given, but they sometimes are and you should e-mail steven davis with your situation.

I'm just curious though, I think we interviewed together and I thought our deposits were due on the 24th??

Well best of luck to you :luck:

Apply for another credit card? 🙂

I'm not sure what their take on it is. Hopefully they can work out a deal with you. But they might think "If you didn't have enough for a deposit, why did you apply to begin with?" Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Ryan, did u end up paying the deposit?

I emailed Mr. Davis and he gave me a one week extension but that's almost nothing! My deposit is now due this friday and it's too soon to apply for a bank loan or a credit card. Would is preposterous to ask them to put me on the waiting list instead? I remember him saying that people on the high alternate list "usually" gets in.

I really want to send in a check for the partial amount. Will they even cash the check? I would explain that vigorously trying to acquire more funds since 2K is a BUTTLOAD of money.

I ended up paying the deposit last week.

Did you tell Mr. Davis everything about your situation. I think if you really can't pay then there's nothing else you can do but be up front with Mr. Davis and see what happens. It would definately help to keep the communication lines open.

There's no one you can borrow money from though, like parents or older siblings? I hate asking people for money but I paid my deposit and I realized I would be short for rent for December and probably January, I ended up having to ask my sisters for money, and I'm now working more hours so I can eventually pay them back. Yeah it sucks being broke, esp during the holidays..

Well hope everything works out

mustangrolla, I don't know if you want to be on that high alternate list. I was on that list last year and didn't get in. In fact, I had 2 other friends from that list and they didn't get in either.

Maybe pay half the deposit and ask Mr. Davis for another week extension while you get that bank loan or apply for a credit card?

Good luck to you.

Just a thought- I keep seeing this in commercials.

How about Check into Cash? I think they lend money to you.

Hi mustagrolla....
if you don't want to go to Touro, then why did you apply? I don't mean that rudely, but for some reason you decided to spend the time and money to apply, what was your reasoning at the time? If you genuinely don't want to go there, then you shouldn't pay the deposit, and you should hold out for a school you think you would be happier at. Remember: you have to spend four years there!

We interviewed together as well i believe.

Wow, that's a sticky situation you're in. I don't envy your situation that you have no family or friends that can help you out for a short-term loan.

You might try prosper.com . I don't have any personal experience with them so this isn't an endorsement. Their webpage looks interesting. The concept looks interesting.

I hope this works out for you. It sucks not to have credit. Good luck.

It really does suck to be in mustang's situation. I honestly would not negotiate this (definately NOT ask to be on high alternate list). Patently obvious that Touro is not your top pick and you're using it as a backup which is a nightmare for any school's pride. One week extension is soft enough for an institution... I wouldn't think Steve Davis could go any further.

If you truly want to go to Touro... coming up with $2G is troublesome but worth it only if you really want to go there. If not.. then at this point you best decline it. That's the gist of the $2G...

"The truth is, i do want to go to touro. I just don't literally have the fund available to make the deposit..."

Am I reading this differently or what? The person who started the thread does want to go.

My apologies. I read it wrong. I do believe you should say something to admissions, expressing that you want to go there, but don't have the ability at this time to pay the full deposit. Some schools are able to grant a longer extension (and i mean longer than a week) due to financial circumstances. In the meantime, you can look for ways of borrowing the money to get the deposit in as soon as possible.
