Hi everyone, I was reading the Touro website attemtping to formulate a response to thier secondary and discovered that they are a Jewish funded and supportive institution. I was curious from current Touro students (I'm applying to CA and NV) if they accept or give preference to Jewish students, do you feel that being Jewish or non-Jewish is affecting your education and/or social life or do you even notice? They make a pretty big deal out of it on their website with talk of kosher foods and schedule manipulation in adherence to Jewish hollidays and rites. I am myself non-Jewish and wanted some input from current students. Thanks all

I am not a current student there, however I did apply and receive an acceptance from Touro for the c/o 2011.

The school's student body is very diverse and there is no priority as far as acceptance criteria given to those of jewish faith.

Although certain Jewish customs are observed on campus (such as the kosher and meat/cheese rules in the microwave) the school's curriculum is not infused with religious instruction. In addition, the students do enjoy a few additional days off during the calendar semester in honor of Jewish holidays.

There are currently four Jewish medical schools in the US. One MD program and three DO programs; Albert Einstien College of Medicine, Touro-MI, Touro-NV, Touro-NY. There is no preference to Jews over non-Jews. In all four schools there is a very diverse group of students form all races, ethnicities and religous backgrounds. The only difference is that the schools give off on Jewish holidays as well as secular ones. For Einstien the library is closed from sun down on friday night to sundown Saturday, check the Einstien website for exact details. I am not sure if the library schedule is true for the Touro schools as well. I know students from some of the schools and there is no difference in education and social life.
