Holy..Crap..I'm in!!!! I'm at work right now but I got a phone call from my parents saying I'm in. They got a small letter in the mail. Everyone, check your mail!Is this real life?
WOW! Congrats! When did u interview 10/5 or 10/6?
10/6. My home address is about an hour away from Philly, and about 1.5 hrs from NYC if anyone's curious, since mail might take a longer amount of time to arrive if you're farther

Does anyone know how many people get interviewed, and what percentage of those people actually got in? Cant seem to find those stats anywhere.
hey does anyone know where I can find a list of core hospital rotations for 3rd and 4th yr? and from experience, can someone tell me if those core hospitals have resident positions and if so, are they strong?
This has been discussed few times in the forum. The Dean said something like ~500 gets interviewed from ~4500 applicants. Then ~200 will get the acceptance. Of course, the earlier you apply, there's a higher chance of getting accepted; so the percentage of acceptance will depend on when you do your interview.
I got an acceptance letter in the mail today as well!! 🙂
However, I will be declining my offer, so hopefully if someone is placed on the waitlist, they can take my seat
I will try to answer, but some of the facts I know may not be 100% accurate.
You can find some of the sites from Tourocom's website; however, they're not comprehensive. There are several good rotation sites but not all of them will have residencies available. Most of their rotations are in NJ and NY area. I would say teaching hospitals are generally better than non-teaching hospitals. I heard Staten Island hospital is really good as well as hospitals in Newark.
The school is still new and they're constantly working on finding the best rotation sites for their students.
THanks, does anyone know how we get rotation spots 3rd and 4th year? eg. do we get to choose the hospitals we want to rotate in or do we get to choose a region and the school assigns hospitals or is it all random and a lottery where you don't know where you'll end up?
I'm asking bc i live in queens and if accepted I want to stay home as much as possible, so basically the queens/si hospitals would be my pref of hospitals to rotate.
I can't elaborate because I am not sure of the details, but it is a lottery system whereby the lottery determines the order in which students will make their choices. So you receive a number between 1 and 135 and that is how rotation sites are selected. Some rotation sites have significantly more spots than others, so even if you don't get an early number, if there is a hospital that you want to rotate at that has a lot of spots, there shouldn't be a problem landing a spot there.

the major core rotation sites fall into "tracks" so you pick an area and get all the hospitals in that group. Obviously, non-core rotations can be done anywhere you please. Also the school has been somewhat helpful in letting a few people set up their own deal, but the heavily discourage it unless you can do all the leg work. But if you can do all the legwork, they'll let you do it.
anyway, the major spots (by grouping)
1) St. John's Episcopal in Queens
2) Staten Island University Hospital
3) North Jersey I: Palisades Hospital Center and Jersey City Hospital
4) North Jersey II: Trinitas Hospital, Englewood Hospital, New Hope Hospital
5) Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton (100% volunteers. no one 'get stuck with' this spot)
6) Some place I forget, in Utica. Same deal as Wilson. 100% volunteers ad it is extra spots, no one get 'forced' there.
7) The Hospital next to Fort Hood Texas for the students in the Army who have to do boot camp out there anyway.
we also have a few hospitals scattered around the 5 boroughs that you can elect to do for a month or two that are specialty places (just doing ER or just doing psych, for example) that you can sign up for right through the school.
people like St. John's because it has two of the most competitive residencies in the whole AOA (derm and optho) and its a touro-affiliated school. So people appreciate going there and having many docs they work wuth be the same people who taught them in years 1 and 2.
SIU is apparently full of residency spots. So people love that too. Honestly I know very little about it because its the only one I'm not interested in personally so I never gathered much info on it. But people tell me its a good place.
Jersey I is Trinitas (a top 10 hospital in NJ) and, i am pretty sure, Jersey city hospital. People go there because they are well known hospitals that house a lot of students from different schools.
Jersey II is a unique set up that appeals to me. Its two very small hospitals and one very large one (palisades). There are currently no residency spots at any of the hospitals, which is what originally dissuaded people from going. Well that's changing. The Medical Education Director there is a real big shot (Obama's personal doctor in NYC bigshot) and is pushing his weight around to get residency spots at these hospitals. If i understand correctly (im pretty certain I did) there will be residency spots there in 2012 or 2013. So perfectly in time for me to move in and claim them. Plus the guy uses his connections to get you some interesting non-core residencies. He got my roommate a month long rotation in plastic surgery just because my roommate became friendly with him.
The upstate locations are apparently amazing. Low stress (or as low as clinical years get) and apparently very educational. There are about 5 or 6 people who elected to go out there this year and apparently those 5 or 6 people all gave outstanding reviews of their time out there. As i said above, the spots in these places are in excess of the student body, so no one gets booted up there, people elect freely.
Just got an interview invite here. I wanted to ask you guys for your advice. i've already been accepted to Western in CA. Do you guys think it is worth the money to interview there?
I'm going to interview at GW on Dec 2nd as well and I can easily swing by NY and interview at TUCOM-NY. I'm just trying to evaluate if its worth it. Can any current students shed some light? What would you advise?
that is an old one. scroll back through the pages of this thread, there is an updated one...though even that one needs to be updated as well with the recent changes.
Agreed. Our system now includes Bergen Regional Medical Center, the largest hospital in NJ.
Finally got an interview invite. Have yet to schedule....
28R, 3.9, IS
What was your bio score?
So it seems like less than 1/4 of the people that interviewed 10/5 & 10/6 got accepted and it appears no one was contacted about being wait-listed or rejected. 😕
bossdoc...im routing for you...you seem to love this school
goodluck!
lol, thanks. I wouldn't say i love it, but im really interested. They have a lot to offer and its one of my top choices. Id probably go if i was accepted Most importantly, I just wanna know what the deal is. I hate being in limbo. A simple email or phone call would be fine regardless of what the decision is.
I'm rooting for you too!![]()
First year here, I've been lurking/posting for a while...
I gotta say, I'm rooting hard for you too, Boss. That period in between interview and acceptance/rejection is nerve-racking and super antsy. Hope you get in and I'll see ya next year 👍
drives me insane how i can't get the secondary invite from them. they are taking sooo long x(
Does anyone have a good hotel recommendation of where to stay when interviewing?
hello!
so im interviewing here on the 17th of november and was wondering if anyone who already interviewed here could pm some details on what to expect, example questions, format- or any tips on how to prepare?
thanks!
My parents received my acceptance letter today. Now I hafta get ready for my AZCOM interview next month and compare the two schools.
Regarding interview, mine was conversation and didn't get a drill sergent. They were very nice and asked general questions about DO, "Tell me about urself", "what's the diff b/w chiropractor and a DO", etc. Just know your file but most of my answers were rehash of my primary and secondary. I also explained more about the research I did.
I stayed at LaGuardia Airport hotel b/c it was cheaper...however, beware of those cabbies that tries to rip you off
