TOUROCOM NY Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was able to get a hold of the DOA on the phone and I asked him about how people that interviewed 3 weeks after me were informed of their acceptance. His only response was that there were a lot of holidays last month and the deans were gone for conventions and I should here something in the next two weeks. Now it just seems like he was only trying to get me off the phone. Obviously, it makes very little sense that some people that I interviewed with on 10/5 would find out exactly 3 weeks later, other people that interviewed 10/25 & 10/26 would find out exactly 2 weeks later. Yet as we approach 6 weeks, I'm still waiting simply b/c of holidays last month. There are others in my situation from that first week of interviews. No rejection letters, no wait listed letters. Just stuck in limbo.

I'd love to go to Touro, but the feeling does not appear to be mutual at this point.

Could just be that your particular interviewer is lagging and has not attending a committee meeting, or has yet to turn in his interview report.

I'm sure anything is possible, but its its hard to remain optimistic at this point.

Stay optimistic. Look, someone who interviewed the day after you just got accepted.

are these the nov interviews??

Keep your chin up...I interviewed the same day as you and I got my acceptance letter in the mail today. It was a long wait, but worth it 🙂

Thank you! 🙂
3.5, 29M, OOS. I interviewed on 11/9 so I was extremely surprised because they told us to expect a response in about 2 weeks.

call me crazy, but i think its a little wrong to make some people wait 6 weeks, and others just a few days

bahh accepted today! letter dated 11/11, interviewed 11/9, did not expect this! so excited!! not sure how they are making these decisions, but it's definitely not in a rational order.

wowie...i got the 8th...and no response...hummm..weird...

bossdoc..mind if i ask what ur stats are? esp mcat bio?

Congrats on the new acceptances. did any body get the deposit form with the acceptance letter?
I am waiting to get it by email.

Did you all receive the letter of acceptance without the response form?

I was accepted 10/27 after interviewing on 10/6. It came with the response form for me. But according to SDN, a lot of people who were accepted a bit later didn't get the response form, so you're def not alone

Hello!

I got the e-mail saying that they received my supplemental app & fee on 8/29 and i still haven't heard whether or not i'll be invited for an interview... are there others still waiting as well or should I contact the admissions office?

any advice would be appreciated 🙂

Thanks!

I hope everyone's application season is going well 👍

Heya. CDN here. I think I am the 1st CDN to be accepted this year (among those that interviewed this yr)
Interviewed 10/6
Accepted 10/25
I already put down my deposit....I hope they got it....lol

To those of you worried about the short turn around from acceptance to deposit due date, we just received an email stating the deadline for the deposit has been pushed back to January 5, 2012 to allow us more time to make a decision.

Already sent my "non-refundable" deposit + plan on going here anyway so this doesn't affect me, but figured some of you might want to know.

Was it sent directly to you or to a group of people? Because I didn't receive that email.

Canadian here too.

For those of you who applied/interviewed/accepted, how strict were they about the Behavioral Science course requirement? I've read a few things in the past about how some classes were able to count, but I was curious to see if they've changed. Thanks 🙂

I got that email too. Do you think Jan 5 refers to the deadline for the first deposit ($2000)? Then when would the second deposit ($1000) be due? I'm going to give them a call anyway, but just asking for everyone's opinion...

I think jan 5th would be for the $2000. I don't think the second deposit will be due for a while. Sometime in Spring? Maybe Feb/March? Idk

To those of you who have already interviewed, did you get a chance to ask the interviewers questions at the end of the interview?

This is my first (and only) interview so far, so I’m pretty nervous. :scared:

I just received an interview invite for the end of January, and wondering if it would be mainly for a spot on the waitlist?

Secondary received 11/15
Interview Invite 11/17
Interview Scheduled 1/25

(BTW, they had 2 dates left in January and 4 for February)

I received the same today. There will probably be spots open - they are just starting interviews again after a winter break.

Usually there is a small amount of time to ask questions of the interviewers, but it may not be much. Right after your interview you'll be given a tour of the school with two students- they are a great resource if you have any questions.

January is usually around the time when people historically begin interviewing for waitlist spots, but keep in mind that we have a new director of admissions this year and things have been working differently. I interviewed well into the time frame when the class was technically full, but the waitilist really does move and I made it in.

Yes you definitely get a chance to ask questions and the interview was super casual and open file so as long as you can talk about yourself normally.. you're good! 🙂

Has anyone at all received official notification that they have been wait listed or rejected?

I did not ask any questions to the interviewers since they almost ended the session abruptly. However, I had several questions I wrote down to ask just in case if they said "do you have any questions?".
Remember tho, you are judged the moment you walk into that building. So just be courteous and humble to everyone you meet. It's really easy to be nice to most of them since they are generally helpful and great.

Oh ya, don't be nonchalant and show them you are interested in the school....but don't be coy or fake

That 1000K deposit isn't collected until sometime at the end of Aprilish. Once they are finished interviewing and giving out acceptances, that's when you'll get a due date for that.

Well I received an interview invite today. The dates listed are at the end of Jan and early Feb if anyone is interested.

I got an email yesterday about the extension for the deposit with the response form, then another one this morning that said:

Please find the updated version of the TouroCOM Response Form that has been modified to reflect the following changes:

$2,000 non-refundable acceptance deposit with this form which is due by January 5, 2012. An additional $1,000 non-refundable tuition deposit is required by May 15th.

Also, I guess it depends on your interviewers but I had an extremely quick interview and they asked if I had questions at the end. It felt as though they would've let me ask questions for a half hour straight if I had that many. Guess it just depends on how everything pans out

Same but i was asking alote

I think i interviewed the school more than they interviewd me

But again it depends on the committee

I heard some guys were non stop qs on you

Question about the rotations at Touro: Do we rotate through any hospitals with ACGME residencies, or do the hospitals that we rotate through mainly have AOA residencies? I know we can do some electives in 4th year, but I'm wondering about the main rotations. Thanks!

I had the chance to ask lots of questions at the end of my interview. We also asked the student guides lots of questions too, which was very helpful. Good luck! I'm sure you will crush.

For 3rd year rotations, some of the hospitals have ACGME residencies (like staten island university, trinitas, bergen regional, englewood), some have AOA residencies (St. John's, Christ hospital, and for you guys Palisades and 1 other hospital). Some of the hospitals have no residencies (Holy Name, currently Palisades, meadowlands hospital). One of the upstate hospitals also has residencies but I'm not sure if its AOA or ACGME.

Not all of the above hospitals have residencies in all of the fields, one of them only has a psych residency, another has only an FM residency, some have residents training from other hospitals, while some have like 5-6 residencies.

Go to all of your interviews unless you find a school you really like (and get accepted) and don't want to go anywhere else or if you really don't want to go to a certain school. For now plan on going to all of your interviews, you never know what may happen. You may not get in anywhere or you may end up loving the school you interview at last. I would say for touro, January and February will still have spots open.

Now that the deadline for the deposit has now been moved back to january, touro will have a harder time anticipating how many students will put down the deposit so they have to either hand out more acceptances than before to make sure they have enough seats filled or accept more people than usual after Jan 5th if they didn't have enough deposits put down; I would think they would do the latter to avoid overfilling. Currently, they are being a bit more picky in terms of the stats of the students they interview/accept, which they now can be since they are a more established school.

Since students have more time to decide (and get accepted to other places they may be waiting on) less students will put down the $2,000 just to hold a spot (that they may not necessarily want or just as a back up); this will help touro get a more accurate number of spots they have left to fill after the deadline.
