Yeah don't worry, many of us have gotten accepted this cycle with sub-30 MCAT scores.
I received my interview with 26 but only my vr was atrocious. Afterwards, my 2nd mcat score came in few days b4 my interview and got 31.
That said, I don't think my new mcat score really mattered. I think even without my rewrite, I would have gotten in cuz I rocked my interview 😎 (or so I wish)
Yeah I got in with a 28. No worries. They told us that only the bio section indicates anything regarding success on the boards. VR apparently means all of nothing to them (which was good for me). I hope that helps!

9. When you look for any user-submitted information or feedback online, you're going to find that the extremes are over-represented. Someone with a 12 is more likely to volunteer their score than someone with a score below 10.
Know that people get in to Touro NY every year with very low scores, and that people elect to go to the school with very high scores and multiple acceptances.
If you're worried about your application, use that energy to follow up with the school. The acceptances I've received have all been from schools where I've done everything possible to demonstrate interest. Touch them. Make them feel loved.

Yeah I got a 9 in bio and my overall score was closer to 20 than 30. I also applied late and still got an interview and waitlist. If I can do that then you guys with 30's shouldn't worry so much.
11 (I thought i was gonna get 9 cuz my BS section was mostly orgo and i didn't study for orgo lol)
I highly doubt there's anyone with lower than 9 in BS got accepted, not to even mentioned getting interviewed.
I'm saying this b/c Dr. Camarrata told us they only invited students with 9+ on BS
This is true. I got a 9 and was invited for Dec/early jan interview but declined.
So, I have a question regarding this school. I currently live in NJ and my application has been complete for a few months, and today I finally received a secondary. Do they screen heavily before offering them? I do have a decent GPA, average MCAT, but really great EC's. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you ! When I saw the 12s all I could think was OH MAN 🙁 HAHAHAH thank you once again for your input. I have an interview scheduled for later this month and am getting so nervous. From what I can tell Its going to be rough. Im just worried that theyll ask me a biochem question and I might not be able to recall the information :X

Relax, its very informal. Basically you sign in and sit in a conference room from 8-11:30 or so. Throughout the morning various deans and admin people stop by to talk to you and a medical student comes in to answer questions that you are afraid to ask the people who will be deciding your fate. They pull people from the conference room to attend a financial aid meeting and a half hour interview. My interview was with two professors, I found them both to be friendly and felt very at ease. The questions were all fairly standard- why touro? why DO? etc. The half hour flew by for me. Once everyone is done you take a tour of the school, eat lunch and talk to more students, then attend another presentation on the teaching methods of the school and you are free to go around 2:30. My group was offered the chance to sit in on a class later that afternoon but I think almost everyone left.

Is it true that's a secondary = interview invite? I know that has been posted several times and would really make my day if this is true.
Yes, the interview is very informal! If I were you, I would just review the school website to have some key points to talk about (just in case), but really it is not necessary. The deans who initially talk to you stress that it is only a "conversation", which it really was! Just be yourself! Good luck!
Sorry but that isnt the case anymore 🙁 If youre looking for an interview at this point I would try to make that known to the admissions committee in some way. Maybe give them a call to check on the status of your application or send an update/LOI as an e-mail. GOOD LUCK !
That was my fear, but at least I have an opportunity to qualify for an interview. Do you have any idea of how many secondaries are sent out, or perhaps some indication of percentage of people that are interviewed? Thanks, I need all the luck I can get.
My interview was informal. Both Dr. Quinterro n this social worker (forgot her name) were very nice. They asked general question about DO and the school. Just make sure you understand the principle behind DO and a generalized concept of OMM.
Understand what the school's mission is (focusing on Harlem). I just prepared myself the day before the interview and made sure I knew what I wrote on my primary and secondary app.
They also asked me about my research and I told them quite extensively what I did (wasted about 10min explaining)
That being said, I heard some ppl got good cop bad cop scenerio, but I don't think that is common.
Lastly, be yourself. Be affable and amiable to everyone you meet. But if you are a person full of affectation, make sure you take some good acting classes b4 the interview 😉
If you show compassion, motivation, sincerity, and have a spark in your eyes (as Dr. Camarrata calls it), then you will rock the interview.
I am also interviewing tomorrow- just read through my secondary and poked around on their website for a while until I found a few things that interested me about the school. I definitely think focusing on Harlem and its population would be good points to hit, since it's in their mission to specifically help the immediate area the school is in. Good luck 🙂
Apparently this is what I did while interviewing with Dr. Cammarata. He said it was a "really great interview!" at it's conclusion.

Sounds like you have the exact same science scores as I do. So... your score shouldn't rule you out.
I had the exact same scores as you and I got in. I hope that helps a bit.
Hey everyone been lurking on the forum a while I just wanted to respond and say how impressed I was with Touro at my interview (1/26)...I was one of the fortunate ones to get accepted! I am proof that they look at the entire application....my stats FYI

Yeah, I really don't know why Dr. Camarrata said that about the BS section being most indicative of board scores. More often what you hear is that the Verbal score is MOST indicative of overall success in med school and of board performance (USMLE anyway).
Here is a study that correlates verbal skills (including SAT verbal and mcat) with board scores:

Agree and Agree! FYI Med schools in Canada Emphasize Verbal. 2 schools I know of only look at verbal, another only looks at verbal and BS and University of Western Ontario set a cut off of 11 Verbal for an interview.
