Hi everyone,

This question is for those who have been recently accepted to Touro NY (congrats!).
I will be applying for the 2008 cycle and wanted to get your opinions.
I already have an MPH and currently working towards a masters in biology and have a 4.0 gpa in graduate work. I also have lots of clinical and research experience.
Do you guys think I have any chance of getting an interview next year at Touro? Or even NYCOM? I know that my undergrad gpa is what's keeping me down but do adcoms look at graduate work favorably?
Thanks for any and all advice/comments! 😀

Well when I was there they made a point of saying that they like to see 24+ and 3.0 but dont make a strict cutoff because sometimes someone will do really welll in one area and not so well in another. One of the deans continued to mention that they also weigh the interview heavily when considering your candidacy. I really got a feeling that they look at you as a whole, and the admissions director kept emphasizing that youre more than a number. So I would try and get the app in early, your grad gpa will prob be a bonus too...good luck!

yes. because i did and i have similar stats. i have a <3.0 GPA and my mcat was a 28R. I graduated two years ago and have been working full time and taking post bac classes and kicking butt in them. I've also had a few clinical and shadowing experiences in urban settings (i dont know if that helped my application). I recently received an interview invite, which means that they actually looked at my application and reviewed me more than just numbers. Now its up to me to secure a spot with my personality. So to answer your question, yes, if you keep up what you've been doing, they will consider you. You just need to show them you are what they are looking for. Good luck with the torturous process as you start on it. Hopefully you'll hear something good before the year is over! :luck:

btw this is for tourocom. just to clear that up!

thanks so much for your advice! it's encouraging to know that i'm at least within the ballpark of what they are willing to look at. 🙂
thanks again and good luck with your interview, amathew!
