Hi all,

Piss poor miserable VR practice scores - MCAT in 2 months, but have already been studying for some considerable time. Can someone shed their thoughts on TPR Verbal Hyper-learning? Is it really the best thing out there to improve my VR "skills"? Has anyone had much luck with it?

Thank you for your insight!

🙂

I liked it better than EK 101 tbh. The answers are a lot more concise.

Even though OP is banned, I wanted to put in my two cents about the TPRH book for those viewing this thread. IMO it is the book that has passages that are most representative of the real MCAT (other than the passages in the AAMC practice tests ofc).

I liked it better than EK 101 tbh. The answers are a lot more concise.

The four practice exams in the back of TPRH are great. The other passages are also good, but maybe only slightly better than EK101 because although the passages are a bit more challenging and questions slightly more similar to AAMCs, they aren't designed to be read in packets of 7 (a full length). I found doing full length exams to be the absolutely MOST important exercise one could do. I improved my score from an average of 8 on practice passages to 10's+ by the end of a couple weeks of verbal focus and a lot of full length verbal practice. I received an 11 on the real deal. EK101 is great practice but by the last few practice exams the answers become a little wacky and it felt to me that they were written similarly to the first passages which made it artificially easier as you went along (not necessarily because you were improving). I countered this with switching back and forth from EK to TPRH for a change in scenery 😀. For what it's worth, personally, EK101 had slightly more interesting reads on average which made me feel a little more engaged in the reading.

In my opinion, TPRH is better but only a little bit. Worth the money people charge? ($150).... yeah, especially since you can resell it easily. EK101, although it has some faults it contains a LOT of practice passages. The sheer volume allows you to figure out how YOU want to attack verbal, not how some company tells you to. Doing well on verbal is a very personalized development. For me there was a lot of trial and error on how to speed up, how to read without subvocalizing, how to note key words and ideas, etc. so having a lot of fresh passages ( I could barely finish if I tried) was invaluable. I definitely recommend getting both books if possible. If you have to choose 1, I would say get EK101 because it has more full length exams.

Yeah that price tag is pretty hefty but I never thought about the resell value. Should I be buying the Verbal review or just the verbal book? One has a cover of a girl and the other a guy.
