traffic citations

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you have to report traffic citations/parking tickets?

Parking tickets, no. Traffic citations, maybe. Depends on state laws--whether the offense in question is a criminal misdemeanor or felony.

Also, do a search -- this question comes up FREQUENTLY.

my app:

"Except for minor traffic violations, were you ever convicted of any violation of the law?"

Please provide the context -- which app? Otherwise, that doesn't help the OP except to gently remind him to read the applications' questions carefully.

AMCAS specifically asks whether you have been convicted of any misdemeanors or felonies. If a traffic ticket is considered a misdemeanor, you have to report it. On secondaries, I would use the same guidelines, even if the phrasing "minor traffic violation" is a little ambiguous. You most likely won't be kept out of med school for a speeding ticket, but you could be if you didn't report it and it showed up on your background check.

my ba-bs/md program app.

Unfortunately I think they are misdeameaners..this sucks

I would confirm that, of course. You may also wish to order your own background check to see if the citation(s) show(s) up. There are people here who would advise you to unconditionally be upfront, and there are people who will say if it's for something as simple as speeding, don't bother; but you need to make your own choice. It never hurts to be armed with as much information about what is in your record as possible.

One small note, because it is relevant to this thread:

The secondary application for Washington University in St. Louis asks for all convictions except parking tickets and speeding tickets. I called them up to ask whether they also excluded all other minor traffic violations, and they said they do. Just and FYI for anyone completing that application.

Just report it. No one is going to reject you for a speeding ticket.

They will, however, reject you for being dishonest in any way.

This.

You need to report if you've been charged and convicted with stuff like street racing and reckless driving. Cuz then you are ....

I know this joke sux, but just roll with it.

so generally speaking, as long as its not a misdemeanor or a felony we don't have to report it?

Wen a secondary gives you a box to list your traffic violations, do you guys just list them? Do you need the date? Do you describe what happened in a sentence, like saying you were going 40 in a 30? And so on? Lol I dunno how to list my tickets.

And yes, this is for cincinnati haha.

Speeding = Practicing getting to the hospital quickly for future medical emergencies 👍
