Ok im sure this has happened to many people but I submitted and had my AMCAS verified and now remember I had 2 traffic tix in Arizona (they were well over 7 yrs ago) but they might have been misdemeanors...i requested the certiphi CBC to be sure but am i ****ed because I put no misdemeanors on my AMCAS if it shows up on the CBC can i simply e-mail the med schools and notify them of the slip up?

my first 1 i did traffic school for and the 2nd i paid the fine so i didnt need to show up to court

You'll be fine. The application explicitly says "excluding traffic citations" anyway doesnt it?

In most states (like mine) there are civil and criminal traffic offenses.
The civil kind are not criminal proceedings and are handled administratively through a separate court apparatus. AZ probably has a similar system, in which case it would depend on exactly what your offenses were.

i think it was criminal but they still let u (least when i got the ticket) do traffic school or prepay so u dont need to go to court but they give u a court date and if u dont appear then u get a warrant out for ur arrest...theres nothing on my DMV record point wise (there was a loophole in the system to get me out of it) but im worried that I "lied" on my amcas

Need for speed?
anybody who lives in arizona knows that there r areas in the desert where NOBODY lives and NOBODY is around except 1 lone cop! like serious this was 7 yrs ago...and frankly i totally forgot about them its not like i leave myself reminders about a traffic ticket from 7 yrs ago

i just called the arizona dept of public safety...while she cant pull my records to tell me what is on there she told me if its a misdemeanor it stays on my record for 99 yrs....a little excessive dont u think?? might as well tell me its on my record til the day i die! 😛

99 years?

Kind of random.

so am i kinda screwed over for not putting yes on amcas assuming it shows up on my background check?

ummm not neccesarily, many schools include this same question on their secondary applications so you could include it there. For the schools where this is not the case you could call or e-mail them and tell them about your predicament and I would suspect that most schools would be rather understanding and update your application.

Uhhhhhhh, do you or do you not have a misdemeanor???????????? Fining that out will answer all your questions...

I kind of want to get my Certiphi background check.
its 150 dollars or less but i need the peace of mind especially if i need to start making calls and sending e-mails about these stupid traffic tickets id rather not get an acceptance then called later saying they r taking it back cuz i failed to report a misdemeanor

If the traffic tickets were misdemeanors, yes, you need to put them on your application. I would call either AMCAS or the original schools to see if you can update your answer to the misdemeanor question.

Edit: Also, TBH I'm not really reading what you say very carefully because I can't understand it without punctuation or fully-typed words.

Hilarious.

do all amcas schools use certiphi background checks?

yup 2 misdemeanors, 1 in 2004 and 1 in 2005....guess I should start notifying medical schools of the error...blah I hate traffic tickets...

It is ridiculous, but some states classify speeding as a misdemeanor. I've read some posts on SDN from people who have had to list speeding tickets on their application but they said they were able to explain it very easily.

I unfortunately got a speeding ticket in a state where it may be a misdemeanor (it's not a full misdemeanor but the word misdemeanor is in the violation classification) so I plan on buying a certiphi background check as well in the future to see if I'll need to list it and explain it.

BAHHHH!

Not cool.

SOOOOOO NOT COOL!
for real...because my AMCAS was already verified I cannot update it but just to notify med schools and that when I do certi-phi for the med schools I can list it then too and its sort of like updating the application.
