Hello everyone!

I am willing to take the PTCB exam to become a CPhT. But when I tried to get registered on the PTCB website, one question confused me. It asked me 'Training completed at'??. I have not taken any training. Am I eligible to take the test if I have taken no training? Is it mandatory to get licensed by the state first to be PTCB certified?

Thank you.

No, you don't need to get trained anywhere before taking the exam. Most pharmacies will pay for you to take the exam if you work for them for a certain period of time, so the question is basically asking if they can bill your employer if you work at a pharmacy. If you are taking the exam independently you should leave the question blank.

Ps. for the exam you should know pharmacy laws (quite a few questions on these), how to answer hypothetical ethical situations, simple pharmacy calculations (for example day supply and quantities), and lots of sig codes. When I took the exam there were a few drug/generic questions, and a few questions about the uses of certain drugs... but there were few enough questions that you can pass without knowing that information.

Good Luck! 🙂

Thank you Dancer123! 🙂 As it was a question that was marked, I assume I am required to answer the question and I wonder if it s ok to put 'not listed' as the answer because I have no experience of working in a pharmacy whatsoever. But I am a Bachelor of Pharmacy from India and want to work in a pharmacy while I get into a pharmacy school in here. Now, I have made my profile on the ptcb website and I have one more question...Do they make us pay for the exam right when we register and before even knowing whether we are eligible or not???? Please guide me through this process of registering and then scheduling the exam. Thank you once again 🙂

hmmm... it's been awhile since I took the test and I can't remember well enough to guide you through the steps. I believe that when I registered for the exam that question was not a required question with an asterisk.

Putting "not listed" as the answer to the question makes it sounds like you have had training but it's just not listed on their drop down menu. I would call them and ask what would be the best response to the question.

Yes, they will require you to pay for the exam right away. However, if you call them you can be sure if you are eligible to take the exam and then you won't have to worry about paying for it.

Good Luck!

I would definitely give them a call and clarify my doubts...I am so happy to get these suggestion from you all, specially Dancer123...Thank you so much!
