hi, im currently in college, about to apply to university. Im aware about most most things about medical education but the one thing that im unable to find out is the structure of training after university.
Ive found on the NHS website the stages you go through, foundation, SHO registrar.., but im not sure at which stage you begin to specialise, if you spend the whole time in the same hospital. Also when you do begin to speacialise, im interested in aneathesia, are you limited in where you apply, or even limited in what field you can apply to.

Currently in the UK, new graduates do two years of foundation training which involves rotating through six or more "placements" or departments. Then specialist training (ST) the length of which depends on the speciality. eg O&G is 7 years, GP is 3.
