I had a question regarding medical school transcripts. I know it is a common saying that if you are interested in a competitive specialty people always give you the response "apply early, because it will increase your chances and you will be amazed by the number of interviews you will receive" I already sent in my applications on September 1st. Have not heard from any programs yet. I realized one reason is that my transcript has not been sent out yet. I do know that my school usually sends the transcript out with the dean's letter - I talked to the lady in charge of the dean's letter and she told me another lady is just proofreading all our transcipts right now.

I know some programs require the medical school transcript to completely process our application and decide whether to invite us for an interview. I know one program that I applied that has given out some invitations so far from whom I have not received any notice yet due to this lack of transcript. I also know that I missed their usual cutoff screening step 1 by 1 point, but they have interviewed applicants previously with lower scores and will consider my application. I know the program has downloaded my application, scores, and the two letters that have been sent through ERAS.

My question is will I just be compared to the general pool of applicants who have applied later and have to face the cutoff score because my transcript was not sent in early or will I still have a chance since I sent in my materials early? Thanks for reading and good luck to all.

Just out of curiosity, what field are you applying to, and how did you find out a particular program's screening cutoff? Mind sharing it with the rest of us?

As for your situation, that really sucks. Many schools (mine included) start sending out transcripts once you've certified and submitted your CAF (i.e. they don't wait until November 1st, which is when the MSPE/Dean's Letter comes out). Have you tried talking to your school and letting them know they're hurting the students by delaying?

It IS true that many programs won't offer interview invites without the transcript, though. Some may not require MSPE or LORs, but at LEAST you need CAF + PS + transcript + USMLE.

I am applying for radiology, and I can tell you that if you are real curious about a certain program and cutoff score, call or email the program coordinator about this info - these PCs have been really nice about offering the details about scores.

I have heard of other schools which also send the transcipts with the Dean's letter. I know my school is really good about uploading my LORs as soon as they arrive.

Another question, I am assuming the transcipt is to assume completion of core requisites. I just finished my core Psychiatry rotation - put it off to my year 4 to squeeze in some electives and September was the earliest my school let me take the course. I know the shelf exam scores will not be out until next month. Will this have a negative impact on me if the transcipt is sent out next month?
