Do medical schools actually get transcripts from my college? I thought that AMCAS just got the transcripts and verified them against your AMCAS application and then once it is certified, the schools just take the AMCAS application as record of your grades.

But something really weird just happened. UCLA says that they mistook my UC Santa Cruz transcripts for my letters of reference. They had updated their status website saying they received my letters of reference and I had never sent them there so I called and they said that they had mistook the transcripts for reference letters. I only realized how weird that was once i got off the phone and don't want to call them back.

    ????????

Seems like you should call them back to clarify that. They shouldn't have your transcripts unless you requested that your school send them there. That is pretty weird.
