I have a question regarding how transfer grades (from other institutions) are calculated. In my university, all transfer units are not calculated in the undergrad GPA. I looked all over, but couldn't find a definitive answer.

2 Transfer situations:
1. 4 classes from a state school that I took over a summer. These classes actually fulfill premed requirements (2 quarters of calculus, 2 quarters of physics (non-lab though). I did relatively well in these courses and wouldn't mind these being added in the GPA calculation.

2. 1 non-prereq class from a community college class (econ). This was online and I literally just did this to hit the unit requirement for cheap. It would be great if this was not included.

In my transcript it does say that I have transfer units from the institutions, but no classes are added in my undergrad GPA. My understanding is 1) GPAs will be added since they're pre-reqs, but what about 2)? Can I decide to not send the transcripts from the community college (even though they're listed as units in my undergrad transcript), since they are not pre-reqs? Any reference to other links would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

But you cannot decide not to submit that Econ grade. Every grade you have earned from HS(dual enrollment), CC, college/uni are calculated into your AMCAS GPAs. You must submit transcripts for every course.

I see from @gonnif's answer here that it might get down weighted since it is a community college course. That's so funny that a candidate can potentially boost her GPA by taking CC classes.

Do we get to see their final GPA calculation when submitting?
EDIT: I see from the manual that "Your AMCAS GPAs are calculated during verification and will be listed on your printable application once AMCAS processing is complete. You will also be able to view your Cumulative Undergraduate GPA and your Graduate GPA."

Also, I have a masters in Computer Science, I don't have to send these grades right?
EDIT: looks like I have to send these in but it is up to the institution to decide whether or not to include it.

Thanks for the help!

Sorry another question that I can't seem to find after scouring through the internet.

What designates a class as 'Math' for the science GPA? I see it can be applied math, biostatistics and math, but what if it's in a department other than Math?

I took 2 courses in the computer science department that were math classes: discrete math, and probability for computer scientists (basically math heavy stats). I also took a mathematical logic class in the philosophy department. Can I designate these as math classes?

You must send in every transcript from every university that you ever attended. Your Grad GPA will be listed and seen by every med school you apply to. It is expected a masters will have high grades

Got it, thanks. I have a 3.66 cumulative GPA, 3.78 sGPA, but a 3.32 master's GPA in Computer Science (career changer so this was 5 years ago when I wasn't anywhere close to premed). I guess it's done and all I can do is explain the circumstances and blow my postbac and mcat out of the park to inspire confidence, but there's no use in dwelling over that MS.

Thanks for the clarification.

Why are you doing a post bacc? Your GPAs are okay for many MD schools now. Your MCAT will be crucial to determining your list of schools.

Sorry forgot to emphasize: I'm a career changer (B.S. was in Computer Science). I hang out so much in the non-trad forum that I forget to preface this in other forums haha.
