HEy guys...
I've been reading a lot of the posts here and it seems that for the most part everyone feels free to give a fair and real opinion. There is the small amount of arguments and personal missunderstandings but it's life, no? 🙂

I need your opinion on my situation so here goes the story.
I was accepted to a US med school few years ago - I had plenty of offers from Carib schools and St. George and Ross practically called every week while I refused thinking I was too good for that and I belonged to a US school. ANyhow, I got in, things worked out for about 1 year and than a lot of personal issues and my family drama developed so I ended up pretty tangled in that web. My tests around that time suffered, school admin didn't care and argued with me and I was fed up so I quit.
After trying a few other things of no substance I realized that what I started was the only thing I really wanted to do so now I'm thinking of going back. And here is where the problems start.
1. I'm looking to transfer the courses I took in order to advance and save some money
2. The fact that I was in and left has shut the doors in the mainland schools pretty much and now it seems that the carib schools are my only hope. Ironic isn't it how life comes in full circle...
3. A few schools (even Guadalajara) don't take transfers - I called SGU and they told me we don't take transfer applicants at this time, and I really don't want to start all over - even my MCAT is considered old at this point since it's been about 6 years.

I'm thinking of applying and hoping to get in to Ross or AUC or even SMU (but this issue of licensing is starting to creap me out even though I'm not particularly crazy about Ca, but you never know and anyone would like to keep options open) I'm also wondering how my past experience is going to affect my residency applications and everything else after - Everyone knows that graduating from the Carib. schools carries enough stigma with the medical community in US as far as residence and post grad medical education.

So as you see I made a mess and now I want to make it right but I'm not really sure what's the best way.
Let it rip now and feel free to express yourselves - I value your thoughts and any insights you may provide. I truly believe more minds are better than one or two and since you're all experienced one way or another I think your input will be of great service to me.

All the best and good luck to all!!! 😉

First of all studentdoctor.net, fix your forum. It takes forever for your website to come up. You have got to do better than this; it is horrible. Otherwise, no one is going to want on this site. Get it together!

As for alfa , thank you for the opportunity and trust in us. First of all, I am a 4th semester at SMU, and it has been a horrible experience for me. I'm leaving after this semester. I think you may want to look at SABA, AUC and maybe even Ross. Even if you have to start over, it is never too late. As far as the "stigma" goes, I can't wait for someone to bring that attitude to me, so I can shove it down thier throat. I don't care where I graduate from, a teepee for all I care, I have always felt that I am better than anyone else on earth when it comes to medicine, let alone the US medical students and doctors trained in the US. Now, I will have the opportunity to prove that soon enough. We all take Step 1, and then I am on the wards. Competition is heating up. Don't believe all that you hear about foreign medical school graduates. Last I checked, there are some very good docs in Europe, and they didn't go to a US med school; there are some pretty good docs in Asia, and they didn't go to a US med school; there are some pretty good docs in Australia, South America, Canada and so on, and they did not go to US med schools. US medical schools were not even around 200 years ago, yet there were some very good docs back then as well. US medical education is great, and good for the students who went to a US medical school. I am so sick of hearing how wonderful US medical students are and US MD's. There are a number of them who absolutely suck. Some of them have done a horrible job at medicine. Some of them have no committment, no heart, no concern, no ability and just plain suck at medicine. Yet, all I hear on public med forums, is how wonderful they are. My ass!!! You folks can be impressed, but I am going to be too focused on my goal, work too hard, and be too determined to give a damn about them. Screw them. They are nothing compared to me when it comes to medicine. I am going to be an infinite number of times better than them at medicine. The end! I don't give a damn where they went to school, who their parents are, who they know, what they have done, who in the hell they think they are or what they think I can or cannot do. I am doing it, and nothing is going to stop me! Now, you can believe whatever you want, but if you let your dream slip away, you will regret it for the rest of your life! I am 40 years old, have a 20 MCAT, 2.5 science gpa, 2.5 overall gpa, no degree, flunked a couple of medical school classes, go to a caribbean medical school, and I will tell you what I have said every since I have gotten into medical school: I will become the greatest cardiac surgeon to ever live. I am getting closer to my goal every day! Nothing has stopped me so far, and nothing is going to stop me. Now, there are very few people who believe me or in me. But, no one thought we would land on the moon, no one thought Roger Bannister would run a 4 minute mile, no one thought Abe Lincoln would become president, no one thought Ben Franklin would discover electricty, no one thought Thomas Edison would invent the light bulb. The only ones who will say you can or cannot do this or that, are the losers who cannot do it themselves or are to scared to try. If you listen to those losers, you are wasting your time. On my team: God, me, my two coaches, and my close friends. I got my team. I say this to anyone, if you are not a believer, fine. Just stay the hell out of my way! I will achieve my goal! You can too. If you love medicine, live your dream. No one's opinion matters, except yours. I do not even know you, but I absolutely know you can do what you set out to do! I believe in you, and I know you will be one hell of a doctor one day! I would be honored to work with you as a medical doctor. Best wishes!!🙂

sdn is doing just fine. many want on their site.

sgu doesnt take transfers. i dont know about auc ross etc. however you are right- the big issues have to do with licensure and the ability to get the speciality you want and practice in the states you want. make sure if you find a place that lets you transfer this wont screw up your chances of getting a license later as theyn you're really have wasted your time. good luck.
