So I'm currently enrolled in a Community College...when I was in the military the CC was much closer to the base and had evening classes on base, so it was really convenient and safe for me to head to those classes at night and complete my gen-ed/prereqs...I signed a 2+2 agreement with a private university stating that I would take two years of prereqs at the CC, obtain an associates, and those will in turn be tranferred to the University....so anyways, today I did my transfer orientation at the University, and the advisor said that now that i'm "matriculated" I cannot take science classes at the CC because they are part of my major, so I'm required to take them at the University.

I planned on taking Orgo I & II this summer so that I can take the PCAT October....the University doesn't offer Orgo this summer....now, the Pharm school I plan on applying for will accept the courses from my CC, (my friend just got accepted there and did all her classes at my CC), however, my concern is....IF I don't get accepted this time around, I was going to keep on pursuing my B.S. and re-apply...UGH...I just hate the WORST-CASE-SCENARIO thought of potentially having to take both ORGO courses TWICE!! YUCK!!

because I want to take it this summer at my CC so I'll be ready for PCAT in October....the University won't accept it as transfer credit because I'm already signed up to start there in the fall....so now i'm debating....take Orgo over the summer and be ready for PCAT....or wait until fall and START Orgo in August :/

oh i forgot to mention that the university i'm transferring to is NOT pharm school....it's a regular 4-year school....I'm transferring there as backup; most universities only accept 60 hours of courses from a community college....I have almost 60 hours, but still need one more year for pharm school because i started the cc working on some classes i needed for my RT cert....soo if i continued at the cc and did NOT get accepted to pharm school, all credit hours over 60 are wasted and i will have to re-do them at a 4-year for my B.S...so i'm transferring now so that I won't have all my eggs in one basket, if pharm school is a no-go, i'll still have other options

Well, how long do you have left on your Bachelor's?

fall '11 would be my last before graduating with my B.S.

I'm sorry but I don't get it right here. Why the university won't accept your Orgo class in the summer as transfer credits? You still will go there in the fall right? Or they want you to take summer classes at their university?
I ask you this because I'm taking Orgo 2 this summer at the CC too and I'm going to the university which I was admitted in the fall. I'm really curious where you live though...

Then take the PCAT next year since you won't be applying until then anyways.

Would it be the worst thing in the world for him to take O-Chem I&II at a CC without expecting credit for it at his university? Based on other posts from this OP, it sounds like he could apply during this approaching cycle.

What's 8 credits of tuition at a CC compared to the chance of getting into pharmacy school a year sooner? If he doesn't get in, he'll take the course again in university and apply next cycle after finishing his bachelors.

+1.

I don't see anything negative coming out of you taking orgo at the CC during the summer. Even if you have to take it again at the University, the subject should be easier since it would be the second time around for you.

That suggests that he perhaps has an agreement to complete the bachelors.

UGH...I just hate the WORST-CASE-SCENARIO thought of potentially having to take both ORGO courses TWICE!! YUCK!!

Wouldn't he need to take Orgo I & II for Fall 2010/Spring 2011 anyways since notifications tend not to be sent out until midway through Spring, late Fall at the earliest? And it doesn't look like he will like taking it twice at all.

fall '11 would be my last before graduating with my B.S.

So assuming that he finishes the BS and doesn't want a gap year, he would attend Fall 2012 and thus apply 2011.

IF I don't get accepted this time around, I was going to keep on pursuing my B.S. and re-apply

I did misread this part so I can also see where you're coming from.

Overall it seemed unlikely that the early application would be successful given that most admitted students have a bachelors and the fact that he would have to fill out apps on top of two intense summer courses, PCAT prep, and fall courses. Appears that something will be sacrificed along the way...

P4S, were you thinking along the same lines? I know you strongly recommend completing the BS for wider options and better qualifications.

the university is saying they won't accept the summer transfer because i'm already matriculated....and since orgo I & II are part of my degree plan it's mandatory that i take those classes at their school.

i've decided to go ahead and take the orgo I & II this summer and take the PCAT in October...I have a pretty strong application 4.0 science gpa, 3.77 overall gpa, plus I feel I can do well on the PCAT provided that I study hard.

I will be applying to Pharm school this fall and if I'm accepted will start Pharm school the following year....I'm trying to get into Pharm school one year early because I'm using my GI Bill and if I can get into Pharm school this cycle then I will be able to graduate without student loans. :xf:

If i'm not accepted then I suppose I'll have to retake orgo at the university in order to graduate with my B.S....and then reapply
