Hello. I'm a student from Puerto Rico. As you probably know, we were affected by hurricane Maria and I have not had school in almost a month. I was wondering how hard is it to get into Rutgers University. I'm a microbiology student. I don't like excuses, but there are many reasons I have dropped my GPA (3.58). Last semester we went on a two month strike and I had to drop some classes and even got a C on a stupid class I did not have to take on the first place and now, well, you know. I have a bunch of W's from my first semester (I had to get out, because of economical reasons). I have more than 60 credits already and an associate in chemistry from another school (like 72 credits with a 3.73 GPA). I need to go away. It is 10 times harder to focus and do well in school when there are so many obstacles and interrumptions. I need some peace lol. Do you guys think I have any chances? My entire family is in New Jersey and I don't want to be alone any more. Do you know any other schools in NJ with a microbiology program? Also, do they transfer credits? Thanks!

Stephanie,
Did you move Stateside? I applied to UPR dental school and we were living in Condado so fairly lucky. But my husband's company evacuated everyone for Irma and just now decided to stay in PR so people are moving back depending on where they lived etc. What is your main goal? Just to graduate or go to grad school? UMUC has classes that may work for you but they have a biotechnology major not a micro major. And you will have to pay out of state tuition but can live in NJ. They have classes starting every 8 weeks since they are on the term basis so you can start pretty much anytime and some classes are staggered. They can use your associates degree towards your bachelors so its an option. They are a transfer friendly school. I would think OOS tuition and transferring credits is going to be the main issue. Good luck! I have extended family in Humacao who lost everything. I hope the new year brings better opportunities.
