Hey everybody. I was interested in getting more information about transferring PharmD programs. I'm currently enrolled in the Roseman University College of Pharmacy (UT). The reasoning for my transfer is that I'm currently going through some health issues. My current physicians are in AZ and planning to put in a leave of absence at my current school. I just wanted to get more information about transferring. Due to the lack of time I was unable to find physicians in UT. I am currently at good academic standing in the school. It is really become a financial and timely burden to plan appointment/flights and it makes it even more stressful (which worsens my condition) to pass every tests (to get to my flight).

I'm looking to transfer back to AZ or NV since it's closer. Since I'm going to AZ for the holidays, I would like to start researching methods to transfer locations before putting in my leave of absence in my school. I just have a few questions.

What schools offer transfers? What is the process like? Do I have to re-interview?

I could ask the schools, but I don't know which schools offers this option.

Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for the help.

I think you are just going to have to call all the schools you could potentially be interested in and find out directly. Also, how far along are you in the program? That could make a difference too. For example, different schools teach therapeutics at different times and in different ways (semesters, blocks, etc). You may have to repeat classes, even if you do find a school to transfer to. Good luck!

This is my first semester...I only took law, finished biochem, and started my first pharmacology course...I'm not that far into it.

Transferring between pharmacy schools is generally very difficult. If you end up switching programs, there's a good chance you'll be starting from scratch (re-applying, interviewing, etc.). It wouldn't hurt to contact the schools you're interested in transferring to, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

That said, transferring really doesn't make much sense to me. If you're going through a serious medical problem, taking some time off from school and starting back when you're healthy sounds like an excellent idea. That's a decision only you can make, of course, and I obviously don't know exactly what your condition is or how difficult it is to manage.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck. Don't mess with your health!
