How hard is it to transfer after right after completion of OMSII? Anyone go through the process? What can I expect for hurdles to overcome? Any help /insight on the issue would be great.

Depends:

1) DO or MD school? Makes a difference. For DO will require COMLEX, for MD the USMLE. And it should be a respectable score. AAMC has a site for MD schools that accept DO transfers.

2) Good reason. Sick family or spousal job.

3) Available space at the other school.

I would plan on transferring to another DO school. My spouses job situation and family would be the reason for the transfer.

How good of a board score is good enough? Like 500 Comlex? Boards are a ways off and I have not put much thought into them yet.

Dude, I read your other posts. You are headed for a divorce if you guys go for the long-distance, two-state marraige. Think hard about this.

We have been living apart all this first year. It's not healthy and doing another year of it stinks, but if I could transfer after second year there would be some light at the end of the tunnel.

you have an extremely legitimate case for transfer, many schools take transfers in 2nd year. Call up the admissions anonymously and ask them all the requirements. If you have average grades, this should not be a problem. Do not burn any bridges with your current school though.

Even with a good case I'm not sure how it will all work out. Hopefully someone on SDN has gone through the process though and has an uplifting story to tell about the transfer process.

You will need the blessing of both deans - the accepting institution and the releasing institution. You have a compelling reason. Most require passing of COMLEX 1, but between years 2 and 3 is a fairly common time to transfer. You need to talk to your dean and try to figure this out.

Other options: see if you can schedule all of your rotations near home. It's possible, others have done so with special exemptions from most schools. Again, you have a compelling reason.

First stop: talk to your dean. Do NOT make it sound like you are unhappy with the school, but unhappy missing your wife and children. You want his/her help, not their disdain.

I thought about transferring briefly, here's what I did, I called up the school I wanted to go to, just to see if I stood a chance. Every DO school in the country has people failing/dropout each year, and therefore, there are spots every year. If you are in problem based or systems based school, it may be hard to transfer out, unless you are transferring to a school with similar system. We had a kid who transferred out after 1st year, it is definitely possible. Call anonymously, tell them about your curriculum and see what they say. If they don't take you after 1st year, they will definitely consider it 2nd year.

Wow. I just read your other posts as well. You seriously just need to file for divorce now and it get it over with.
