So there are 2 pharmacy schools in my city. I am pretty lucky to live in this area.

One of them is my top choice, parent went there, and I wanted to continue the legacy. Life sucked, I didn't get in.

I DID get into the other school in my city. The name isn't as "prestigious" and it's obviously not my number one choice, but I am still very grateful to be able to attend a pharmacy school.

Both schools allow transferring but they say the circumstances have to be "extenuating". Because both schools are located about 3000 feet from one another (no exaggeration), I doubt they would see any situation as "extenuating" enough for me to hop from 1 to the other.

My question is this:

For anyone who HAS transferred pharmacy schools, how hard was it (did it leave a bad taste in the former school's mouth)? And for those on the outside looking in, my chances are pretty much slim to none aren't they? Should I even consider this option? It has been really bothering me over the past few months.

The only successful cases I've heard of were pretty extreme. Do a search on these boards and you'll find examples and information others got from actually contacting schools.

Even if you're able to transfer, the courses are probably different and in a different order, so it isn't as simple as entering your P2 year at another school.

Ya, I did a lot of searching, but I wasn't able to find any threads in which someone has stated that there are more than 1 schools in the same city. Like I said in the OP, the two schools in my city are no more than 3000ft apart.

I totally understand that the cases that require transferring are pretty outlandish.

I'm just wondering if there is anyone on these boards that thinks that what I am doing will even carry a 50% success rate. I wouldn't mind starting back from P1 as a P4 (hypothetically), the name of my top choice is really special to me, especially with family history.

Move on. Seriously. If school A didn't accept you in the first place, they will not accept you as a transfer.

This will seem really unimportant in 4 years. I promise.

I don't want to be mean, but let me tell you when I read this post all I could think was that only someone who has not actually experienced pharmacy school yet would be so willing to go repeat one to four years of it. After you have a year or two under your belt I doubt you will feel the same way.

A friend of mine transferred from a different pharmacy school to ours. I'm not entirely sure it even counts as "transferring" as he basically had to repeat P1 and P2 years. And his extenuating circumstances were that a member of the family passed away.

Honestly, just move on. To be blunt, even if an extenuating event does occur, you'd still have to qualify to get in, you don't get a free pass because you were already accepted to another school.

Ya i figured things would be prett bleak.

Just wanted to get some insight.

Much thanks guys.

Yeah really lucky, all those pharmacy grads and increased competition for jobs.

Dw about me. 🙂 I got it all worked out

Given the "2 schools in the city" and "3000ft apart" comments I suspect you may be from Boston. If you are then go ahead and forget about transferring, ain't gonna happen.

Boston is certainly a possibility 🙂

And lol, yes, I already have decided against going further with this attempt.

Thanks for your reply though.

Don't worry about it. You got in, and that's the most important thing.

If the only school(s) that would admit you were known diploma mills, that might be an issue, but otherwise, you weren't supposed to go to that other school. Enjoy your time at the school that did admit you, and good luck finding a job in 4 or 5 years (can't say we didn't warn ya). 😳
