Well, i'm really worried because I will be transferring after my first year at a community college. I will take organic chemistry as soon as I transfer and because I will be taking a break from chemistry since i'm ahead. I will also take anatomy 1 and probably another science. I will try taking electives only at my community college next semester before I transfer over. That way I can only take general eds and core classes. Everyone tells me university is a lot harder than community college and it's very depressing to me. I'm just worried about how the material will be for me 🙁.

Can anyone give some good advice or tips? Thanks

It may be true for some CCs but maybe not a huge leap as one might think.
I went from a CC to a 4 year and I do believe it's more demanding but then again I'm in higher level classes, so it should be. I'm taking 15 credits this semester, working part-time and I have 2 kids. Think about that for a second......if I can do it, you can do it!
Just get used to prioritizing your time and studying regularly. This will be a good litmus test for you to see if dental school is right for you.

Its will go fine if you have the right mindset. Alot of the kids that wash out after transfer think they can study like back in CC but its just not true. Study your butt off the first term you are there and pull as high of grades as possible. From there level it off until you get handle on the pace of things.

I think you should have taken as many sciences at a CC as possible, especially O-Chem. I think they make it unnecessarily hard at a university. Only take upper division at university. Why spend money when you can save at a CC. All mine were at a CC and I did just fine at the DAT and in my interview.

I am worried about this too. However I took all of my prerequisites at the community college and I will be taking all of the upper division classes at the university.

I think you will be fine! I went from a CC to a VERY tough university. The very first quiz was a wake up call, I failed it, but it served as motivation to make me work harder (as a side note I aced the class despite a 60 on 10% of my grade). You just have to go in ready to work HARDER than before. As for the "shoulda taken more science at CC", I think that this is NOT correct. I thought most dental schools looked down on doing too many required classes from a CC, especially science classes. Prove to them you can post a good grade, B or higher, at a university and in my opinion it will look better than an A at a CC. Good luck! Just be ready to work and you will be fine!

I transferred from a small school to a big school as well. I did fine. You will like being at a four year school if you're serious about your education. It is a BIG leap, but so is stepping into an upper-division course load at the college you've always attended. The fact that you are anticipating the transition and getting advice shows you are ready. It's not as bad as you think...

I don't think it will be much of a transition. Attend your classes, take good notes, and study the right amount of time for the material. No worries.

Thanks everyone.

I'm just worried about how it'll be like for me. I'll take everyones suggestions into consideration.

Thanks!
