Anyone with advice on the USAF transitional year programs. I am thinking about applying for a transitional year and then doing flight medicine.

yar, word on the street is no matter what you do, expect a civilian transitional year if you are HPSP. There are only a few military transitional slots each year, and they mainly go to USUHS students first before given to HPSP.

Im in the same situation

So if I am deferred and I get a civilian transitional year then what happens the next year?

Thanks

then you will come on Active Duty as a flight surgeon. Most likely you will be sent to your gaining base to inprocess and then be sent TDY to Brooks City Base (San Antonio, TX) for the AMP course (Aerospace Medicine Primary Course). Then, you will go back to your base as a flight surgeon.

depends on your situation. If you were deferred for a civilian transitional year, then don't count on it.
If you are trying to do IM, Peds, FP, maybe even General Surgery, OB, then you can probably go straight through if you match in the military.
There have been cases of HPSP (AF is what I know) who were told to get civilian internships who civilian matched in categorical programs thinking they could tell the AF later and get them to let them stay. They have been shut down and had to come on AD as flight surgeons or GMOs.
